I would convert your original dash to an A/C dash by adding the stock vents.
Hart Rod recenly cut his '68 dash to add vents.

The Dropmember will definitely need the high hump trans cover.
High humps are easy.
Use the hump cover itself for the template.
I use "nut certs" to make the threaded connection in the floor.
Others have welded nuts to the bottom of the floorpan.

Then you can use stock oem style carpet as well.
Much easier than a custom trans tunnel.

Chad, Keith covered it very nicely for you. I would install the high hump no matter which dropmember you choose. Even with the mild dropmember you will probably need the extra room.

You can still lay frame in the front with even the touring dropmember as I have depending on your overall tire height and which drop spindle you use. My deep transmission pan is holding my frame up about a 1/2" from laying in the front but I'm not to worried about that right now, I'll eventually change it to a stock pan.

The high hump was easy to install, like Keith stated I just used it as a template and then cut the hole out. Then just bolted it in. I also seamed sealed mine on both sides because I don't plan to take mine out.

I have the same Vintage air kit that Hart Rod just installed in his 68 for the non-ac dash. They include the templates and vents in the kit to install them. Just three holes and you have AC vents. It is a really nice kit.

OK fellas .. I'm back on this one..but I will say this is my last build.

I have ordered a new Woodall fleet bed from Southern Kentucky classics. Its supposed to be all together sometime the first week of Sept. I'm planning to prep it, put it in Epoxy and sit it on the truck for mock up. It should look a lot different as a fleet side I thought about 69+ woodgrain trim on it but I'm going with full 68 style CST trim.

I'll post up some pictures as soon as I can.

We will also fire the BB in the next week or so. Video coming too.

Really man, I made quite a bit of $ on the ole GMC build. I am trying to decide on wheels for this one now. I'm not doing billets, they are beautiful but you guys were right, they are a serious pain in the butt to keep looking nice.

I'm thinking kinda old school? Steelies and copo caps? While I have the bed apart it will be easy enough to put a band in the wheel tubs and really stuff some tires under it.. what do you think? I always liked Weld Draglites.. kind of a timeless look but it still says muscle too. Torq thrust D's?

I thought about a 15x12 Weld setup with 29x13.50s.

Steelies always look good, & I'm a huge fan of TT-D's. I worked for American racing back in the 90's as a salesman, so they are my vote if you go that way. And you could always have them widened to accommodate that big a$$ tire. That'd be cool!

oooo very nice build. Glad you came back to her. About the trans tunnel, I thought if you were running a 2-piece shaft you didnt need the high hump? The trans sits at the same height right? I guess Im just pulling at straws hoping I wont have to make one when I get there!

We have the same valve covers but the talls look sooo much better then shorts. Did you clearance your firewall cause the valve covers or are you on sb mounts?

I have a one piece drive shaft in it now, and may still do a high hump. I'm just not sure how much I will drop it. It has a 4.5/6 drop on it now. I may just notch it and stay around this same drop or a 1" block.. etc.

The valve covers are pretty close to the firewall yes. We had to clearance just a little due to moving the mounts back about an inch. The PO custom fabbed the BB mounts on to the 73-87 style front k-member.
.. should help keep it from plowing in the corners.

It might get aluminum heads at some point too.. . Still an option. Fuel injection, etc. Well see how it pans out.

The high hump is needed if your running a dropmember as it moves the motor/trans higher in the frame towards the floor. The reason for the 2 piece driveshaft is so you don't have to tunnel the cab floor for the driveshaft from the rear of the high hump to the back of the cab wall. If your not running a dropmember or don't plan to in the future then none of this would be needed. Hope that answered some questions, sorry about the thread hijack

Very interested to see what direction you go with this buddy. Can't wait to see how the bed works out for you as I'll be ordering mine in hopefully in October/November. I myself prefer bigger wheels and think a combo like the gray c-5 Coys with a 20x12 in the rear with 29x15x20 Mickey Thompson s/r would look awesome.

I just wanted to update my friends on here to let you know the IVF process is going really well. We should know in a few days if it 'worked' so I'm just trying to keep my head up, I've done the best I can do.

Listen, there's no easy way to say this. Seeing the way the forum is turning more to 'drama' than friends helping friends, some negativity in other places for other reasons it's time for me to go. I guess you have noticed Dad hasn't posted much lately either. He had an issue with a new member in the parts board a while back and it just hasn't been the same since .. questions / statements toward integrity, the constant badgering of Shrum on his threads, etc. This board is incredible but it's starting to be more of a sore spot for me than enjoyable.

No offense toward anyone and I know I had considered leaving before but it has come up again. I'm going to finish my big block truck at some point but a new baby on the way, .. it's not going to be fast.

I had fun guys. Dad and I have talked about it too .. I'm pretty sure he's out too. We are just going to keep things father and son, hopefully grandson and go from there.

Yall keep it between the ditches. It has been fun, best of luck with your projects.

Your build threads, with all the detailed info and pics, have been great for many of us to watch, follow, and learn.
Your knowledge and helpful attitude is greatly appreciated also.

I'm a newbie to the 60-66 body style and I have to say I have learned....quickly, it is by far better to read for a couple hours than to hack up new or existing parts trying to figure it out.
The build sites are a fantastic wealth of how to do's and what not to do's.
So to any and all, if you're planning on doing something, check around here first.
Most likely someone has done it and it will make your life SO much easier.
FANTASTIC SITE! once again, thank you for sharing your info with us, it may feel silly doing it but it helps so many others when they embark on the road to whatever project lies ahead.
I'm looking forward to posting my build, as soon as I can figure out how to put up pic's.
It should be a good one as far as here's how you shouldn't do it goes.
