Thanks, If Rob would have kept his son's step bed it would have been like "twin brothers with different mothers" but with names like Esther Mae...

Thanks Justin, I am proud of it. It isn't super detailed or anything, but I am proud of the hard work I have put into it. I am also appreciative of all of the assistance available here on the board!

You just don't get patina like that every day.

Love to own this truck or another stepside truck.

I like the rallys too, i'd like to keep them for an alter ego but I am going to have to change the rear end to properly fit the new wheels so they will have to go to the classifieds.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

That is one clean truck. A buddy of mine growing up had the exact same truck. What are planning to do with the 'ol 6 and 3 speed?
They ain't fast and gas mileage ain't too good either, but their bulletproof.
By the looks of how well it's been maintained, you almost got a turnkey project.
good luck - looking forward to the progress.

Very nice looking truck... What size tires did you end up running front and rear?

The old engine and trans are going get a new lease on life in a '58 Chevy stepside. The truck was basically stock when I got it, so I did a complete engine and suspension swap. I also changed the interior with a set of buddy buckets and a new dash pad and visors. So sure, I guess it was pretty much turn key...

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Well, I gave it a shot and it bit me in the @ss. I replaced my heater core last weekend, new core and seals, cleaned out the leaves and crap. Buttoned it up and... It leaks worse than the original heater core! I give up, I'm going to pull it all out and cover the firewall holes until I can afford a vintage air system.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Curious what is leaking????

I had to do this a year or two ago and while it was a PIA, everything matched up as it should. I only had to use rope caulk around the circumference of the box and new core.

The heater-core is leaking. I took it all apart to replace a leaking heater-core and now the new one is leaking worse.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

I'm surprised. I just picked one up at the local Oreilly's and while it was lighter in weight/quality of material, it seems to function as expected.

I bought one from there as well and it has worked perfectly for well over a year.

Don't give up on replacing the heater core just because you got a bad replacement part have them order in another one and do it again.

I agree with Xeen. Get a new part, it's the time of year where heaters are good to have. Even here in Florida!
