Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
It looks really good, and is really going to clean up the engine compartment. One question though. How are you going to check the brake fluid, once the dash is all together?

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Did a couple revisions on my dash drawing. I'm leaning towards the top one (A). I think the black stripe on the bottom will create a nice transition to the floor if the carpet is black. It also makes the dash feel like it's got two zones; upper for the gauges or lower for switches.
I think I decided on a color for the truck. Its a blue...I will post pictures of the truck later that I found that I picked the particular blue from. So I'm going to do the blue with white roof, chrome bumpers and the aluminum/stainless(don't actually know what it is) factory exterior lower trim. Haven't decided on wheels yet... |

Looks good. My firewall is also shaved similarly so I was needing a brace there anyways so I guess I'll be selling the frame mounted setup I bought from you.....man that thing's getting around
What about A/C/heat? I forgot if you were planning on running aftermarket....if so, any interference issues you forsee?

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
It should be! Look at the date of the first post This is becoming ridiculous. I'll tell you, the combination of a young son and an attached garage(as I type right now, he is taking a nap so daddy can't make any noise) leave little time to get anything done. Oh well, that's life I guess.

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
So here is my current dilemma that has been eating away at my brain. I really like those Stewart Warner Greenline gauges in the above renderings the best, however there are no air gauges to match, so I would probably get one Dakota Digital gauge and find a mounting spot for it. Problem is it obviously wont match the SW gauges which will bug the crap out of me.
The next best thing are these Classic Instrument G/Stock Series gauges which are actually just like our gauges in these trucks...black face with light green numbers and orange pointer. They also have air gauges to match. Here is a rendering. So while these are not my fav, I like the fact that they are "period correct" and that the air gauges will match. So what do you think? |

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Humm.. yeah i like the top one the best too but i see what you are saying and not sure either. The gauge people like auto meter etc should look into making air gauges to match their stuff just for stuff like your doing.

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5
Well I haven't updated this thread with my dropmember purchase, so here goes. Back in December I got the bright idea to sell my sectioned crossmember and get a dropmember. So I had to pull the engine and trans to do so. While the trans was out, I sold that too! The money is going towards a Tremec TKO 600. I said to myself I'm building a hot rod, so why the hell do I have an automatic in here! It all felt like two steps backward, but I think the end result will be well worth it.
I got a flaming river power rack from Summit. All the dropmember pieces except the actual crossmember I powdercoated myself with an Eastwoods gun. That thing is awesome! So much better than dealing with paint that doesn't have he durability. I also went ahead and got a swaybar from Nate. The only thing that sucked about the whole deal was welding in the rack notches in an already powdercoated from. I took pictures of that but can find them. I felt like I was performing surgery! A couple other notes for the record, I had to cut 1.25 inches off the ends of the rack. I also had to mill down one side of the AirRide upper control arms shafts because they were dished for the factory washer spacer thingys. In this picture you can see the notch surgery. Here are some pictures of the stainless hard lines for the air and brakes.
