Re: Got a new truck
Well the trucks is completely apart. But, it is going to be another week before we get the other Truck. It is a 3/4t, with a 327/4speed. So won't have any updates for a little.

Re: Got a new truck
Well I gave up, on building the 4 door for now. We will try to make it after the buggy we are going to make is done.
The buggy we are going to build will be similar to this one.

Keep up the great work! It sounds like you should have yourself a great wheeling machine when you get done!

Re: Got a new truck
We will make some panels once we're done.
And we started last night, but made no progress. Just bent the sub frame bars, but the bends were crooked. We need a degree finder, which we are getting today after we turn in our cans.

Well we started over on the frame. And this is what it looks like, 58 and 3/8 wide inside to inside.

Re: Got a new truck
Well I was working on it today, and found my wheelbase will be around 130, unless we cut down the front of the frame to bring the axle back some and still be pretty low, so we can get in the garage.
So should I leave it at 130 or cut the frame and get closer to 120?

Re: Got a new truck
good choice.. 120 is even a little long for the stuff i think you want to be doing... My long box sits at 128... i will be shoring that up to about 120/118 when I link it...

Re: Got a new truck
I was hoping 120 would be good. My longbox is 128 and is a little long but make pretty much everything that the tire size allowed. And I could even get a big bump if I didn't make it cruising, but that caused some broken parts.
The truggy was at 108ish, pretty close to factory shortbox. And was great no problems made everything that the tire size allowed, and was able to make the tighter trails easy. But, Could have been a little longer for a little bump and a little stabler. So this will be the middle ground and hopefully be great.

Re: Got a new truck
Well this is what we have done so far. I measured for headroom and it will be aprox. 7 inches. The passengers side bar is tacked and the driver's is bent and just needs to be notched on one side.

Re: Got a new truck
Well we got the driver's side thing and the center (dash) bar tack in also. We have the top roof bar bent (the bar above the dash, don't know what to call it) cut, bent and one side notch and the other side halfway notched, but then drill burned up. So we have to get this one replaced then more updates.

Re: Got a new truck
I already have a wheel.
Well today we got some more steel and got the top bar on and my dad is making the trans cross-member right now. It is not that angled down, We don't have jackstands tall enough for the sub frame to sit level, at ride height.

Re: Got a new truck
We were going to do that today, but instead we lowered the frame to full bump so the jackstands will fit. We are now working on the back half and motor mounts. I will get a pic latr.

Thanks.
Today we just made tabs, and made top bar for the back-half. Tomorrow we will make the other bar for the back-half and the roof bars.

Re: Got a new truck
a few pics, we clearly have a vision problem, but the shocks aren't in the way the carb and air cleaner are.
a rough idea

Re: Got a new truck
is there any way to lower your motor mounts, thus lowering your running gear/ COG and giving you a clearer line of site? Your shock hoops will stick up but thats pretty common.
Its seems that your air cleaner will sit flush with the roof as it sits now. I would probably make a new crossmember for the block something like this and if you clock your TC it shouldnt change your driveshaft angles to terribly. I assume you are running hi angle drivelines anyways so it should be all good. IDK man, if it were my buggy I would.. You've done a lot of work to leave your carb/intake/air cleaner at risk in a rollover. From what I can see it looks pretty good otherwise. Some side view pics would be cool, but I see you have limited space (I work out of my garage also ) |
