Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
Color sanded and buffed the front fenders and cowl panel today. Came out really slick.
Also, we got the drivers side door glass in, buttoned up the door panel, and color sanded and buffed the glove box door and got it installed. Basically, the inside is all done until we get it home. Once home, we will have to pull the seat to put the speakers and amp back in it.

Thank you. The whole upload was weird for some reason. I think it’s fixed now.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
The red tailgate lettering really stands out. I like everything you're doing with it. That's going to be the coolest school-age kid vehicle out there.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
Looking awesome. Really turning out nice. Seeing those door panels clean like that is starting to make me think about welding up the speaker holes in mine and just go with kick panel speakers.....
The red is bright on the tailgate, but it looks good with the tail-lights and side markers.

I still go back and forth on the tailgate lettering. It is super bright. When I look at it in pictures, it's too bright. When it's indoors, it's too bright. When it gets outside, the blue gets really bright and the lettering actually calms down a bit. I like it then. Either way, the boy loves it so I guess that's a win.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
quick question for you. when you were installing the bed wheel tubs, did you put any sealer between the bed floor and the tub flange? or did you seam seal that joint after the tubs were installed? TIA
that paint is looking awesome btw. Al |

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
We used mastic. It is what is used between the seams on pro-panel sheets when you assemble a metal building. Not sure if you can picture what I am talking about or if you have access to any. Also, not sure if that's the best way, we just have access to it and use it in applications like this.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
The Video says it all, he is one Happy Camper as he should be. He put a lot of work into the truck which makes it even more meaningful to him. Have you purchased the Rev wheels yet and if so who did you purchase from or who will you purchase from when the time comes ? I forgot about Dad who obviously deserves some serious credit here also!

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
The red letters are a nice touch! I wouldn't have thought of red, but they look great.
The hours spent on bodywork really show through in the final finish.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
Today, we finally got around to color sanding and buffing the bed sides and tailgate. I think the reflection picture of the boy is pretty cool. Anyway, I’m happy with it.

Man what a great thread. You guys really put your covid downtime to some good old fashioned father son time use. The truck looks fantastic.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
Thank you. We’ve definitely been putting the time in. Hood is painted as of yesterday. We will probably cut and buff it tomorrow and get it put on, and I think he will be able to bring the truck home.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
So is this your shop y'all are working in? I remember a while back you showing us the other truck your brother and his son we're working on. Tell us about your setup if you don't mind?

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
My dad owns a hot rod shop - Wild West Street Rods is the name of it. He was kind enough to let us in the shop to work and provide his assistance/expertise.

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
I've been following this truck along, and the truck alone is awsome, but added the father - son project puts it over the top.
...and the red lettering on the tailgate, it's perfect! stands out, but not overdone. ...and the paint? OMG that is amazing You/your son should be very proud I'm going to send a PM on Mark K side molding... Kevin

Just wanted to give a quick update. Exciting day - the truck is home! I will post a link to a video and tell the nightmare of a story for the first real drive later.....
Happy 4th of July!

Re: Son's 68 c10 Short Bed
The attached link is a video of the maiden voyage home. Right after the video stops, the truck spit a transmission cooler line and puked the majority of the fluid all over it. I got him shut down; fortunately, before it hurt the transmission. We fixed it on the side of the road, filled it with fluid, and limped it back to the shop where we spent the next 2 hours cleaning transmission fluid off of literally EVERYTHING. I don’t think it hurt any of the paint. So we were fortunate. https://youtu.be/NU5nu1343cc
