Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

Okay I will Mitch. I did a job that I've been puting off for a long time. I started with a very good radiator support for a 72. My plan is to make it work for my 68 front clip saving me some dough. I started by drilling the spot welds on the headlight bucket holders and removing them. I got a template traced from a 68 rad. support and transferred the hole markings to mine. drilled the holes.

squared the holes with a triangle file. This one wasn't done when I took the pic. I just wanted to give you a in progress looksee

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I then put the square headlight adjuster nuts in, drilled a hole for the spring and put it in

made some relief cuts to push the metal back some. On a 68 this hole is centered with the bucket. I wouldn't do this to a show truck, I would buy a rad. support. So since this is just going to be a driver and nobody will see it its alright.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

Mounted the buckets and put the bezels on. I know the bezels look bad. I need to get some new ones sometime.

that pic looks like one I took before but the headlights are now fastened.

As far as I know thats the only mod..you do have to use a 68 grill support and latch too. I didn't put the slashpan on because I didn't want to drill holes in the support.

Thanks. I took it for a spin the other night and I have a missfire so I need to do a tuneup. I still need to go through all my brakes too. It stops good I just need to look at everything though for my piece of mind.
I got the backup light frame off of Ebay. You can do a search for l.e.d. frame and it might show up. If you can't find it lmk. Some people don't even put them on but I plan to drive it pretty regular.(backup lights)

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I got some valve covers and am trying to decide if I should polish them or polish the fins and paint them and reveal the fins. Just don't know as of now.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I got the correct breather and oil cap for the valve covers. I also got a new dist. cap and rotor button and plugs. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance to put this stuff on.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

On the covers, the last few sets I've seen that were really nice were painted with the fins polished. Looks very slick without too much paint or too much bling...just plain classy and custom.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I got the dist. cap and rotor button on and changed the plugs. Adjusted the timing a little and it runs good. Took a spin and back home then decided to go get some gas. As I came to a stop my peddle went forward and and the light came on. I still have some brakes but they are different feeling.

I got home and popped the cap on the master cyl. and one was empty. Turns out that the wheel cylinder that I couldn't bleed let go and the fluid came out the rear pass. side. I'm going to take the truck to my buddy that does my brakes and ac stuff and get him to do the rear brakes and put the vaccuum on my ac system and gas it up.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I polished the fins on one of the valve covers and painted it. Its harder than you think to get the paint off those fins. I think I like it so far.

What do yall think??
