Pete,
I like all your toys. Good to see the 4x4s so loved. Your K20 makes me want to build one. Just need to get all my current projects done first. I subscribed. Thanks

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
First and foremost, this was an awesome build and the results were even better! I don't recall reading in your thread, but how did you mount the spare in the bed? Pictures would be awesome! I am wanting to do the same for mine. Also, did you go back with a stock suspension? I love the stance of your truck. The wheel and tire combo looks good...as it sold me to go back to the steels for mine! Many thanks and great job on the build, it's got my vote!

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
Chris, thanks! The bed I used came with an OEM side mounted tire carrier, which was an option on these trucks. They aren't too difficult to locate, a WTB on the parts board may get you one. I've attached a pic for you that shows the carrier posterior to the cover for the aux fuel neck. I did go with stock suspension. Good luck with your build. Pete

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
DHNM, found your thread by searching for parkerizing. Glad I did. I'm usually over on the square side, but like these trucks a lot too. And yours is the nicest I've seen. I hope you are getting many chances to enjoy it. How is the parkerizing holding up?

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
Pete, nice trucks!
I have a question, can you give us more info (pics would be even better) on what you used for exhaust hangers on the passenger side? I see the forward most bracket is a 4x4 drivers side flipped around. What about the muffler and tailpipe hanger brackets? Thanks |

Good question. The trucks are locked away in storage for the winter. When possible, I’ll post up some pics or shoot you a pm. I do recall that the blazer had a rubber strap muffler hanger that I believe to be oem that was affixed to a mid body crossmember held by a nut, bolt wide square washer. There were paired factory holes in this cross member on the vertical face though the factory set up made use of a single side. I think we were able to make use of the driver side hole to make it look more like a factory-style routing. Meanwhile, here’s a thread that gives some helpful information: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=741224 Hope this helps.

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
Wow Pete, I need to read signatures more, I came across your post another thread about paint lines, and the painter (Josh) will be all over this.
You waste no time, what a beautiful build. Question about the white paint line(s) rear of cab, in front of the bed panel.... ![]()

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
Hi Tony thanks for the good words. It was a great learning experience. I’m still tinkering with the k20. It’s got fresh Alcan leaf springs, a new OEM radiator, replaced cluster without the speed warning speedometer, NOS HD shocks, restored BE mirrors, and a NOS tailgate band. This spring I’ll add NOS door seals. OEM parts availability has really diminished since this build began.
As for the paint, the rear cab photo in post one shows a corner shot of where the white ends and that’s just around the bend to the rear. The white paint is not a continuous band across the rear of the cab. Note that the door window frames carry the white into the cab - this is seemingly specific to Flint built pickups and may not be correct for your build.

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
Just a shout out to one of the best builds ever (on this site or otherwise) coming up on its TENTH anniversary. I love this truck and have taken great inspiration from this build thread. TBH there was a time when I just had an open window on my phone to this thread for quick reference. It's a top shelf build by a top shelf guy...my gosh where have the years gone. My reflection tells me a decade has come and gone, but this truck still looks amazing.
Thanks for saving this truck Pete and sharing it with us. You're both the best!

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build
Shaking off some winter cobwebs this week. I finally got around to replacing the faulty turn signal switch in the tilt column and while at it I swapped a NOS woodgrain/chrome bezel onto the cluster. The manual throttle option added at the time of the original build was d/c'd in order to spare the risk of damage to the new bezel. As luck would have it, a NOS woodgrain glove box applique came with the cluster bezel and this I added last year. It's nice to now see OE woodgrain from the driver seat.

I'm curious, did you have to touch up the chrome lettering (wiper and lights) on the bezel, and if so, how did you do that? It seems like many of the NOS ones had the chrome applied lightly in that area. Also, are the holes for the turn indicators chromed on yours? |

Looking great Pete. Very few ways a truck like this could get upgraded. But wow, an NOS woodgrain bezel. Next level.
