Sorry to hear that, glad you're OK, but hey, look on the bright side, at least you didn't have a 12k paint job. The truck is still B@d @ss with its battle scars man

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
I didn't know that cheater slicks were recaps.
Glad you motored through it sunny side up.. Are you planning to run something different on the rear now? |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Hurst and Towel City slicks are recaps, Radir Slicks are new tires. A lot of local guys ran recap slicks in the 60’s. I don’t remember one ever coming apart, but several guys ended up doing a 360 through an intersection when they tried to stop on wet pavement and the rear end broke loose and came around.
I love the way they look and really wanted a pair on my truck a couple of years ago. But I couldn’t beyond the concern of wrecking the truck over an encounter with a water puddle (which we have a lot of). And if too much tread is cut into them they just don’t look right. |

Are those TTII's or TTO's? It looked great before and looks even better now. Surprised the offsets are different from the Cragars? Must be TTII's, they are available in different offsets. And that 55 Chevy those came off of is freakin' gorgeous... OH MY GOD! Last edited by lakeroadster; 06-03-2011 at 09:30 AM. |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
I hate to here you had a problem with the tires, But I have to say I love the way the new ones look. I am trying to find me a 60-66 project and I am one of those who like 20" rims but I feel sure that I will go with 15" and some meat under the fender now that I've seen your truck.

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Something about this pic really, really, REALLY makes me want mine done yesterday! I just love the wheel tucked up so deep in the fenderwell (& it's not even a larger diameter wheel).

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Cragar mags and (later Western mag knockoffs) have been popular since about 1965, but I always preferred Americans. I think it looked interesting and unique with the slicks, and now it just looks tough. Being so low it looks like a big cat waiting to pounce.
BTW those appear to be Torque Thrust D’s. One piece casting with curved spokes. TTO's have straight spokes, and TT2's are a two piece design and don't really look all that much like the cast wheels. Last edited by markeb01; 06-03-2011 at 09:11 PM. |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Thanks for the compliments guys! Yes they are Torq Thrust D's.
Tire guy came through for me. He exceeded my expectations. Its kind of weird how things work out. When I first started to build this truck I wanted ET-3 Classic 5 spokes(see pic below). 15s up front and 16s in rear no whitewalls and Cheaters in the rear. I could not find 16 in cheaters so change in plans and I went with Cragers, but had to have whitewalls. I cannot stand Cragers with blackwalls. Truck is still for sale, but I do have a plan for a mini makeover on the truck. Body shop is a friend so I am sure it will be there for a while.

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
No more "Gasser Influence".
No more Cragar and whitewalls. No more white bed floor, bed tubs will be back after bed is fixed. Grill is next for makeover. New Torq Thrust Originals 15X5 and 15X8.5

Hey Jeff,
I'm dig'n the new look and still have the truck! I've been busy lately and haven't been online much... Sorry to see that you have body work to do on the ride... Glad you were able to keep it together and are ok. Keep the pics coming Tony Posted via Mobile Device |
