Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Thanks Scott. I guess the only thing I've done different is I've been doing the filler work on bare metal then spraying the epoxy over the panel. Someone told me to do it that way, don't remember who now.
I've come so far, yet there is still so much to do.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Didn't do much today. Just didn't feel like sanding some more. I had the new wheel tubs sand blasted the other day. I went over them with a hammer to bang the dings back out. They should look pretty good. I hope to spray the hood and wheel tubs in the next day or 2.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
I got back to work on this project. I couldn't keep putting off the sanding. I got the tailgate stripped yesterday, and filled the dings in it today. Then got the new bed wheel wells cleaned up. Then sprayed some more epoxy primer.
I also got the two dings on the front of the hood filled and that area primed (no pic). I still need to do a lot of sanding on the hood before I can spray it. Hopefully I'll get some time this week to finish that up. All thats left for body work is the hood, some touch up on the cowl cover, and a ding on one of the fenders where a ladder fell on it in the garage. Should blocking it it soon fellas.

Nice work. I need some un-super-humid weather down here to start shooting mine.

You are making this look way to easy! I hope my body work turns out half as nice as yours has. I see you live in Sleepy Eye, I lived there for about 3 years, now I am just south of Mankato. Cool to know that there is another board member close by! Give me a shout if I can lend a hand with anything.

There is another member on here from Mankato. His build has kind of stalled but he had a nice dropped stepside he was working on. If you know anything about body work and want to help block this out, be my guest. If you're ever around town, let me know.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Yeah, hard to believe that was the original MN part for my truck. We used to haul wood and trash in this thing for many years. Just had a few dings on the top edge and some rust along the bottom edge. The only original body parts on this are the doors, hood and tailgate.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
While out working today I was at a body shop, and in the lot was a truck there for some work. It just happened to be painted the color I intend to paint this. At least as close as I think it is without having the color chip right there. This truck was originally ochre and white, then painted turquoise, and I guess will get repainted to a maroon color. The cell phone pics turned out ok, might look slightly greener then reality...

Looking good, I hear ya on the sanding gets old and humid weather!! People on this board help each other stay motivated, its hard sometimes. But I read all the build pages and it helps keep me motivated. As long as you keep at it, and enjoy doing it, that s all that matters. Keep us updated!

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Last real progress was on 9/12. Long time. I've been busy with work and the Jimmy build, but that is almost buttoned up and ready to put away for the winter. The reason for this post is that I found a deal on a Holley Pro-Jection EFI set up from a board member here. It's paid for and hopefully gets shipped this coming week. It's not a fancy unit, just the 2D and rated for 275 HP, which should be just about perfect for my little 283. I'll have to re-do a little gas line work, but it should be a pretty easy install. The edelbrock carb will be swapped to the Jimmy. This EFI is probably the easiest and cheapest way to do it. New systems are around $1000 or more from Holley, used ones can be found for around $300 plus or minus. The FAST EZ-EFI is what I really wanted, with the self tuning feature, but those systems will set you back nearly $2000.
I've had a good break from this project. Now I think I'm ready to take it on again.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
The sanding/paint stripping I've been dreading for the past couple months is finally getting done. I started cleaning up the bottom side of the hood today. I also was trying to straighten one of the hood supports in the middle of the hood. It sags a bit, like many of them do. The passenger side support was bent downward some and someone tried to hammer it back, but I think it just dented the support instead. I'll find out later with new pads, etc. if what I did helped at all.
You might see the dents in the pics, one straight, one off a bit: I propped up the one side so there would be some give room to bang it back down. tools and stripped, mostly...

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
The other day I did manage to get the new throttle body cleaned up some. No pics, but other than some new gaskets it should work out well. It needs a wire harness built, bought or repaired, install the fuel pump and return fuel line, remove the mechanical fuel pump, weld in an O2 bung in the exhaust, hook it all up and see what happens. I'll post a pic of that later.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
The wife went to bed early, so I went out to the garage to finish what I started. The bottom of the hood is in primer. Just need to get the top side done and start getting the truck ready for the next stage of primer.
The Holley Pro-Jection 2D throttle body:

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
Now that I got my Jimmy running and set aside, I'll be focusing on the C-10. The only real body work left to do is stripping the hood and getting it in primer. I got it stripped today and will primer either tomorow or monday. Didn't find a single ding in it. Just a little finer grit sanding and it's ready to go.
There is some rust to repair inside the bed, but it can wait for now.

Are you still planning on green for the color on this one?

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build
I decided to go out early and spray it. I hand sanded with 180 first and found a few little bumps. A couple are from the supports underneath pushing into the hood, and a couple other tiny bumps like that. And ond ding that I was able to tap out with a few swings of the hammer. It will need some minor filler work before paint, but not too bad.
Nice cleaned up hood... After epoxy primer... So now I have to figure out what to do next. I think I need to buy some paint.

Nice job sanding and priming the hood. How many coats of the epoxy primer are you laying down on it?
