Interior looks great. I.wasn't going to say a thing about the cable.......honest..... No one will notice it. They'll be too busy tripping out on all the other details.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
little more on the rollback. i have 'till wed to try finish it. i kinda gave myself a challenge to get 12 models done this yr, one a month. dont know if it will happen.
the body was a ROYAL PIA, then for some reason i could'nt do anything right (except stick my fingers together....) pass side decals went on no prob, first shot, only printed one. dr's side was an exercise in frustration- NINE times i had to print the stripe....... visors & domelight, re-wound the winch the right way, also got a couple of big chrome spots for it 'nother pia was the hood, multiple pieces= multiple warpages. grill valance is cut up & modified one from the s-10 454 is done, it's not glued in, everything is just mocked up for fit- 'nother issue was the fan & rad (SURPRISE!! just like the '55.....) had to make new rad support, new engine mounts, move the trans x-member, lift the body another mil or so, modify the grill to fit new rad support.................. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
i got the block & trans mounted, had to modify the cab floor & t-case so it would fit as well. got the exhaust made, still need to do d-shafts, rear will prob be a 2 piece'r. also need to do steering & heater & rad hoses. getting this one done really makes me want to jump on truck 3 of the fleet, the peterbilt. but this rollback has been a HUGE amount of work, bet i got 'bout 60-80 hrs on it, so i'm thinking something simpler next. '55 chev crewcab stepside 1 ton dually 4x4, but with tall skinny lugs (or maybe one of them un-built kits first....holidays come the 3rd!) |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
was not a smooth build.....way longer than i figured i know i just did a five-five, but really getting into the crews, & i got an abundance of '55's right now (plus i just like the kit, nice frame etc...) changing directions on this though, thinking all stock looking (4x4 on skinny luggies) but with a modern drivetrain, what most guys do on their 1:1's anyways chopping up some styrene... pretty rough looking right now. to keep the bottom of the cab level & the body lines strait, there's really no way to cut it so the windows line up decently, so i will cut out the center post, shape the windows & put a new post back in. one other prob is the cab tapers back to front..... ....so i had to split & wedge it open. it's going to look rough like this for a week, going camping tomorrow, beer, fishing, quadding, beer..... so looking forward to it, we've had a heat wave (for us ) for the last couple weeks with mid to hi 90's, been brutal at work. some useless trivia, took the laser thermometer up on the roof yesterday, air temp 96, roof temp on the surface, 165 degrees, as i roll along with my torch- around 450-ish with spikes to 500. yup, on slow broil all day.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

what the hey, got all these '55's.....this will burn up a couple of 'em been busy since we got back, not a lot done well, i know what kind of drivetrain i'm putting in, i know it's going to be a crew, i know what colors i'm painting it..... but i'm not sure which way i'm going to go with this...... this is tire & wheels i got kicking around, also thinking non-dually with steelies & lugs, or steelies & bigger tires, haft to order (and of course 4x4 ) 1 ton dually crew.... bigger tires.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
them pillars ended up being four pieces- each.....
got some more work done on the LT1. truck will be pretty much stock looking, but went under the hood. first LT1 i've built- weird running the plug wires to the front.... a little more on the int. kinda at a standstill, thought i had a couple dana's left, only got one, so i ordered 8 or 9 of them, & only got a couple borg warner t-case's, prefer the 205 so i ordered 5 of them too, & a couple sets of some nice steelies and some other junk. while i'm waiting i was looking at the '94 dually i picked up the other month. REALLY need to get my eye's checked..... never noticed the meltage on it. looks like it was to close to a lamp or something- bummer had plans for this & the 454 SS |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
i thought the two '90's chevys would be quick builds, swap the boxes around.....
like the red ext-cab, they have the lousy AMT one piece chassis.... the 454 SS with a real funky paint job... notice the drivers side box twisted in- very tuff to fix.....but i'm going to try cause i dont have a 88-98 single cab dually in the fleet, plus i DO have everything already for it. and i think it will look cool. just threw the body in the stripper, see what happens with it.... and with the left overs i can make another truck i dont have in the fleet, ext-cab SB. this one i need to order tires for, thinking a set of baja claws. after i took these pic's, i heated up the cab with my lighter & was able to push the cab up so it's pretty decent, but the rear cab wall is a mess, might have to cut it out & scratch in a new one.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
hmmm....shades of the cameo, two days in the purple pond & nuthing....
down to the store for another jug of dot 3 a tub of cabs, boxes, & interiors well this would explain some of it....poor 'ol SS, having had to suffer first threw a pink paint job, then being "butched" up with a screaming yella multi-stripe clown car paint job....it will finally receive a "proper" color.... the box bulkhead on the SS was also bowed, got that fixed, & was able to save the rear cab wall on the melted ext-cab, mite have to add a little styrene to the bottom of the rear window. when the dually box comes out of the stripper, i'll give it a try.... not a lot to do on the '55 'till some parts show up. got the body sanded down pretty decently, to hard for my big digits to sand inside the cab, made a headliner instead, & avoided the fan into the rad problem this time- LT1, electric fan. was able to use the stock rad support, cut the stock rad off it, filled it, & added a 'vette elec. fan |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
sweet, lucky man getting out, we just landed a huge hotel roof that will tie us up for 4-5 weeks, which pretty much kills any time off
crappy deja vu, same thing happened last summer too.... multiple projects? dont know what happened, just minding my bizness building a little old '55, next thing i know, styrene explosion & chevy's everywhere.... yeah...jeez... on the plus side i always got something to screw around on- even when waiting for parts. right now i for see a lot of sanding.... what a rainbow, no primer was used so the paint has "etched" it's way into the plastic and i do mean rainbow, blue paint under the yella started messing with the dually box. front bulkhead was a disaster, melted in solid & pulled the bedside in, & melted a big chunk out of the front of the floor. again, no primer used.... bulkhead was beyond saving, got rid of it, bedside is already starting to come back |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
made a new bulkhead for it. the inner box is square, but i think i will heat the outer fender & see if i cant pull it out another mil or two. them are the rims & tires going on it, seems low to me....
not the best stuff to use, but it's all i got right now, and looks better than a smooth box with a hole melted in it and as mentioned, getting the x-cab squared up, & straitened the box bulkhead. have to make new rear & 3/4 windows, they got a little melty, but the windshield is still good. and these rims & tires are going on here. my steelies for the '55 showed up today, & i ordered 2 sets of these super cool 35" BFG Krawlers, one set will be hittin' the '55 |
