I decided to take a little detour here from the sanding and the sanding and the sanding and the sanding.. You guys get the idea I'm sure. I've had ordered my whole interior from a board vendor Truckseats a while back, real nice guy and has the got hookup with some really fantastic products. The quality of everything has been top notch. So on with the pics.. the best part of any post. Old and new foam Laying it all out New cover and foam installed. My grandson loves to come in my Chevy room (spare bedroom used to store my junk) and get into my stuff! My dear sweet wife says I can work in the kitchen sometimes if it makes my life easier. I'm blessed. Closet in the Chevy room is a good place to hang small parts to dry when it's too cold for paint drying in the garage. The brackets I wire brushed, used Eastwoods Fast Etch, painted first with Eastwoods Rust encapusaltor, the top coated with Rustoleum High Performance Paint, says it dries in 15 minutes. Yeah right. No paint dries in 15 minutes. paaalease. But it is good stuff if you let it dry a couple days. Last edited by ~Whitey~; 01-12-2014 at 09:32 PM. |

Re: Project 69SWB
Here's the seat all done, brackets installed.
Nacho thought he was in trouble when I put him up there on the seat. Only thing I didn't do and I would have if I were made out of money is to have the seat frame blasted and powder coated. But I'd say that's a little overkill for a driver. Here is a pic of the drivers side. It's all there except for the bigger spring, I have it somewhere just got to find it. This is the side I am not sure about. I think it should have a small spring and clip on the outside of that key that slides back and forth. Can one of you guys verify what the passenger side bracket is supposed to look like (both sides) where the rod attaches? Last edited by ~Whitey~; 01-12-2014 at 09:14 PM. |

I was gonna say, you need to get your wife one 'a them pope hats and sing a song, or somethin'. If I tried to bring curing enamel parts in the house, I'd get shot! Lucky man!

Next item up for some loving is a fine fine specimen... A 1968 C10 Steering Wheel in all it's glory. Picked this up on Craiglist for $60 Column, Horn Cap (great shape), and all. I never really cared for the look of the 69 Wheels. I won't be using the column as I have a tilt column that was in my truck already. This is what I'll be using to fill in the cracks after I open them up a bit with a v-cut. I've heard that just using bondo/filler doesn't last but a couple years before it's cracking again, but this stuff or similar products last forever pretty much. |

Re: Project 69SWB
I got started on the steering wheel this weekend, need to let it cure for a couple days before I start sanding on it.
I dug out all the cracks, my Dremel battery bit the dust, so I had to improvise with my die grinder and rasp files. Slowly filling back in... it's hard to get it just right That's put away to cure and then the real fun will begin... |

Re: Project 69SWB
Meanwhile, back in the garage, it was finally warm enough and I had the time to finish the last bit of metal work and get my doors in primer.
My door painting apparatus.. bailing wire is for backup, it's screwed together. I'll come back once this dries and touch up the spots where the hooks touch. I got this idea from JMKING (thanks bud) but I didn't want to hang them from my garage door racks so I could close it down when I was done. When I actually spray the color coat I'm going to have to get a longer board, too close to ladder for that, but worked fine for primer. Black Epoxy PPG JP377 Followed by Grey Epoxy JP205 |

Re: Project 69SWB
Very nice work on the doors and steering wheel Jimmy! That gray epoxy is high build sandable primer?
I have been playing with my doors lately too. |

Re: Project 69SWB
Yessir it is high build sandable. I've got everything except the bed (saving it for last) now done this way. Gonna fit and fit, then do any filler work, glazing and blocking.

Re: Project 69SWB
Nice job on the doors Jimmy, are you spraying in your garage and is it attached to your house. Mine is and more specifically it's attached to my kitchen. Just wanting to know how the fumes are. I don't know what to do for mine.

Thanks George, I'll have to get a longer board to get out and away from the ladder a tad for when I lay the color, was kind hard spraying around that close to the ladder... worked fine for the primer though. |

Re: Project 69SWB
I bought some of that PC-7 for a wheel fix planned in the near future. How long can you mess with it before it gets too hard?
And your doors look killer along with the ladder set up. Great progress |

Re: Project 69SWB
Thanks! Says remains workable for 1 hour at 70deg on the can. I messed with it for a good 30 minutes and it was still pretty gooey. Even went and checked on it after a couple hours and it was still tacky and soft but I don't think I could have molded it at that point. I did this all in the house so it was about 68degree-ish

Re: Project 69SWB
I was going to work on the steering wheel resto this weekend, but I couldn't wait to get the doors back on and start lining this truck up... so I worked on putting the doors and fenders on this weekend so I can do final body work...
The doors are lined up and shutting great using GMCpauls door seals.. They're top notch. I put those on so the doors will be just where I want them as I'm working. I also rolled it out into the sunshine (it's been a while). after body work I get to take it all apart again to paint it. I still need to fit the fenders better, but the doors are shutting and fitting great. I was losing sunshine in the driveway and wanting to get some good pics so I had to stop and roll it out. Cold weather returns tomorrow. :-/ Obligatory favorite modes of transportation bff shot and all tucked back into the garage.. time to get serious on body panel alignment. |
