Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

I had an old truck driveshaft cut down to fit the burb...saved me a couple bucks but it's a bit big at 4" dia., but hey, its stronger

The old shaft had 1350 joints (plenty for what I'm doing), so I swapped out the yokes on the tranny and axle...just a little bigger

Pulled out the old two-piece and cut out the carrier mount...

The offset of the pinion caused the larger dia. shaft to ride against the pass side of the crossmember. I cut out the pass side of the reinforcing lip and moved it outboard 3/4".

Test fit before final welding...good enough clearance all around...

Welded up...

Done deal Vibrations are gone and no worries about strength!

Yep, got rained out for the cruise...but it needed a bath anyhow and not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

Not my style , if I feel the urge to see how fast it'll go, we've got a great local track!

Only if I don't choke and stall it, or blow something up, or otherwise look the fool...chances are high there might not be a video

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

Spent the day hanging out at the GoodGuys 21st Lonestar Nationals at the Texas Motor Speedway today...lots of really cool rides, many were trucks, one other burb that I saw...I was seriously out-classed though, but we turned a couple heads

Been uploading pics that my son took, we'll post more in a thread started in the 60-66 general forum.

Actually have two here...this is the bigger one, at 45x60, and is our main work/play shop. The other is 30x60, isn't insulated, and makes for great storage!

Oh yeah, think I remember you posting a pic of those right before you moved. Looks/sounds like a great setup! Several years ago my dad bought several acres & had a 40x60 built with attached apartment on the back, with intentions of building a house to go with it. He lived in the apartment for a few years I think & eventually sold the property. I think his now ex-wife had a lot to do with that move. They bought a house in the city at the time, with only a couple acres. While he still resides there today, this place only had a single car carport. He built a detached two car garage/shop though & later added an addition to the back for more storage. Sadly, it's still not enough room to play much.

Cool Jeep for sure!
