Same sentiments here. I never cease to be amazed at your talents. That cross is over the top, and a nice handmade treasure. Nicola will never forget where it came from or the consideration behind making it. Hope Mum is holding up. Keep up the good work.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Carried on tonight, doing the sides.
Original plan was to do lattice work sides, but decided to keep it very plain, so as not to detract from the front detail that I finished as well tonight. Side details completed. Altogether now. Next up will be doing Nicola's birth year in Roman numerals across the back. MCMLXIV Then I need to keep my mouth shut till the 5th Feb.

Also can switch between welding and grinding which is usefull Cinder block or Thremalite is easy to work. And yes, it is all chisseled out but mainly gouged as I did not want to risk it with the shock a hammer or mallet puts to it. Takes longer but seems to survive better.

Love seeing those parts! Rian your are a master of many things. Still stumps me that you don't prefer engine work.

Guess we all have strengths and weaknesses. I have a lot of patience, so making and shaping and finishing is easy but the technical stuff intimidates me. I am sure I would be able to build an engine if I had guidance as I learn by looking or imagining.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Carried on tonight after work.
Roman Numerals for 1964 pencil drawn, but as you can see, freehand left some space, so I just freehand carved over the pencil. Back where we started, a before and after together. Now to wait till the 5th February..... Going to be difficult to keep quiet and not show her.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Thought the welder was working and on my first arc I struck, it struck out again..... Went shopping with Nicola on Sunday to distract her a bit, found this ornament in a shop for £3.00. Needs one propeller to be remade and dome head screws to be fitted. Got to be a good enough alternative to a regular hood ornament. I have bid on a couple, but once you add the postage from the USA it becomes a bit silly.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Tried the hood ornament on to get an idea of what it will look like.
Still very much in two minds. Also bought a 4 ton, short bottle jack from Machine Mart for the truck last weekend. £15.00 well spent, as long as you have a tyre spanner on the day. Tonight I also bought a steel grille from a '66 which I may just have to use on my truck, as mine is a bit damaged. Just need to get it collected at Beccles in Suffolk and brought back here.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
WOOOTTT !!!!
Along with the steel grille I bought off Ebay, the seller is throwing in a knackered one that will be used to experiment with once I have straightened it out. Grilles being collected tomorrow by mate Henry "51Rider" who is off to fix his parents' electrics in their home. I will pick them up on Monday from his house in Romford. Actually really pleased and excited at this point.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
Well, another forum buddy, Henry "51 Rider" picked up the grilles and then brought them home to his place where I collected them before work today.
The Ebay seller under described the grille he was selling and the free one he threw in. They were both much better than expected. Check the pic and let me know what you think. This is driving my head mad (well, it was mad before) made by McMurphy up in North Pole Alaska, where they have great creativity held captive...... The "free" ally grille is in better condition than the one on my truck, and the new steel one is spotless, so I suspect the ally one on the truck may just be headed for modification. There are a few dents and the major one, not easy to see in this pic, where the "E" may have hit a fence post and then been repaired with a ball pein hammer. So there you go...... more thinking to be done.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside BILLYBOB
So now you have 3 grilles.
The white one, looks pristene in form... my guess this is going to be your target for mounting after modifications. The chrome one you got with it totally looks salvageable; I would consider tinkering with it until it is straight, and reselling it. I do not imagine it would be hard to sell where you are, for enough to recoupe your expenditures at this point... Your original that is currently on your truck is what I would use for experimentation. If you think this is going to be a time consuming effort, then I would rattle can the white one, and swap it out on the truck. So there are some of the thoughts you asked for...hope it helps ya !! I cannot wait to see how much better your grille comes out than mine, I hope you totally rock it
