Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Wow . Thats really wierd you picked that song because at heart im a really big caddy fan. I have a CTS and an STS and im looking for an eldorado. When in not driving Chevy trucks im driving caddys. Ok as for my opinion on your very first task besides cleaning our truck up I want you to do a compression test and leak down test on the engine. That will tell you / us if the engine is worth saving. It won't tell us anything about the crank or mains but if it fails either test there is no sense throwing money at a tranny if the engine is unhealthy.
Anyone agree? |

Very pleased to see everything worked out for you. Sounds like you have the right idea. Clean it, and access what needs to be done. Good job.

I am glad you were able to pull this one off. Been there. I have a couple of GMC parts that may be helpful to your project.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
I think I would stop THIS thread here.
I would start a fresh new build thread. Congrats on getting your truck. Don't forget about any associated taxes, title fees and insurance. NOW is when you are really going to need money. Posted via Mobile Device

I think this thread is AWSOME, congrats to the young man named schrum! There's nothing like that feeling of getting your truck home safe after much time working on buying it. Congrats, you're lucky you didn't have to travel far.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
My turn my turn geesh, Good job kid im proud of you. These trucks have a way of changing your life. I hope you take care of her. And as stated earlier i also feel as if we all just got a new ride. Put up lots of pics for us we want to see everything even the rust. My dad bought me a 72 longbed for $250.00 when i was 17 im 43 now, and i still have her today, and will the rest of my life.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
way too go schrum i cant belive it finaly happened!
i've been watching this thread all week allmost like i was the one that was trying too score a cool old truck :lol now you can actually start for real threads with meaning ok so you got the truck now but it needs one big big thing an thats $$. sure theres alot you can do thats free. but they dont build themselves for free and please dont go an spray paint "drift king " down the side of it or do anything WACKED too it.its a classic and it should stay that way. now you have a real reason too put the controller down and find a JOB! (allmost like having a kid)but you gotta remember without $ it practaicaly goes nowhere. (unless your mom gives you an allowance then it takes forever) that sure would be one sweet truck that your grand pappy would be proud of once its all fixed up.....that is if your up for it ,boy it takes alot of work. I am definitly looking forward too more pics of it an you progress as you clean it up. an please ask all the questions you possibly can as the most dumb question is the one that wasnt asked. still i cant believe it happened

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
It is now an "actual" truck! First thing to do is drain the fuel, blow air in the fuel line w/cap on to purge...WATCH OUT!!! (It's gonna wanna puke on ya),pour a couple fresh gallons in and do it again. I don't how long this has set but you don't want that rank stuff in your truck. Hopefully the carb is ok,but we'll know that once a transmission is in.
