Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
So had to jump on this deal a little earlier than I wanted to. But it was on sale for Black Friday from Summit so I just had to go for it!
I had heard horror stories about these blocks, however, aside from the tiniest amount of surface rust around the holes for the head bolts, this is a great block! 880 casting, clearances for a 383, factory roller, 4.030 bore, and a 4 bolt main! This thing will rock!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Thanks, getting excited for the next part. Which will be the rotating assembly. Here are the specs:
Brand:SCAT Engine Components Manufacturer's Part Number:1-40410BI Part Type:Engine Rotating Kits Product Line:Scat Engine Rotating Assemblies Summit Racing Part Number:SCA-1-40410BI Actual Engine CID:364 Bore (in):4.030 in. Bore (mm):102.362mm Engine Stroke (in):3.562 in. Balanced:Yes Pistons Included:Yes Piston Rings Included:Yes Piston and Ring Oversize (in):0.030 in. Piston Material:Forged aluminum Piston Style:Flat top, with two valve reliefs Piston Head Volume (cc):+5.00cc Wrist Pin Style:Floating Piston Ring Facing Material:Plasmamoly Crankshaft Included:Yes Crankshaft Material:Forged 4340 steel Rear Main Seal Style:2-piece Engine Balance:Internal Connecting Rods Included:Yes Connecting Rod Material:Forged 4340 steel Connecting Rod Beam Style:H-beam This is Scat brand and I had heard from friends who claim they know someone that had a Scat crankshaft grenade their engine or something. But I have friends, that I know directly, that have used Scat's forged 4340 crankshaft on boosted and nos'd motors without issue. So I am going to give them a shot.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Did you use those CPP tubular mounts? I have those same ones. I had to do the same thing and drill a hole and move my motor back. My headers were hitting the frame. I have headman headers shorties. I cleared it on my frame on the passenger side, but I'm still catching the inner part of my frame on the driver side. I decided to notch my frame ever so slightly. As for the firewall. I had room to spare. Nice tight and clean. I love the look of your truck. We are polar opposites tho. You don't do chrome and I do! Lol! Didn't want to ruin your build with all that bling to show you the outcome of the mounts. But you can go to my last thread and see it. I just did it. So it will be easy to find. Those mounts are really a pain. You will need a certain header to fit so research it. I actually have different header part numbers that will fit those mounts. I just don't know how they will match your other applications? Let me know if you want those header part numbers.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Ordered a bunch of parts today. Ordered the diff cover, trans pan, oil pan, valve covers, breather, and a few other smaller parts. I know, I know, seems a bit premature, but remember, I have to get these all powder coated in two tone and that takes a while! Pictures to come!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Thinking about these now,
These are the valve cover hold down bolts. Do them black or do them blue? That is the question

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
The engine build had to start somewhere
Very modest beginning. I also gave the block a new paint job. Kinda hard to see from these pictures though.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
I also moved the engine build into my back living room inside the house. With all the cold and the rain my garage is way too humid to keep in there. I kept getting small spotts of rust.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Canceled the order on my CalCustoms valve covers in exchange for these
The CalCustom ones would have taken too long to get, and I really need to get these to powder coat.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Thanks! I am very happy with them, definately the right choice.
Now back to my diff cover for a moment. This diff covrt is a lot deeper than I had anticipated. The only way I would be able to get the cover on and off would be to unbolt the lower arm on the suspension. And this cover did not have a drain plug. So it was time to make one...... So with that problem solved it was on to the next. The air filter that came with my breather was that maroon K&N volor which was not going to work. So I found one with blue media and a blach screen over it. It looked awesome too, just one problem though, it was thicker than the one it vCard ame with. So i had to trim the inside bottom of the filter to make it fit the lip inside the bottom of the air cleaner. All in all, it came out looking real nice I think.

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
Got everything dropped off at the coater last night, I am sure it will be at least a month before I start getting parts back though. But, my rotating assembly should be showing up any day now!

Re: 71' (gonna be) a one of a kind custom
It is a K&N type air filter, it's cleanable/able to be re-oiled. But, it is made by Spectre Performance. I did have a couple of *****es about it though; The filter is thick, so much so that it wouldn't fit in the lip of the breather so I had to cut a notch out of the inside lip of the filter to make it fit, also, it was advertised to be an oval shaped filter. Well, when I opened the box imagine my surprise to find a round filter. It fits, you just have to wrestle it into place and try to get it all together while holding it in the correct shape. But, I do love the way it looks though
