Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
great build. not sure if this helps with the clearance issues, but with the porterbuilt frame stiffener kit, are u supposed to run a trans mount? Thought I read that the mounts on tube act as trans mount.

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
That's what I have...mount is done off of x-member tubes....regardless of the mount...when the motor and tranny are installed and at 5* drop it lays where it lays.....I'm clearancing now....just not quite there with pics yet...and Keith I will tell u what I'm doing...took 2 h. humps and made 1 an inch taller....and a piece of 5" tubing (.125) to clearance over tailshaft and rear joint...day or 2 and I will have pics...I'm anal about redo's down the road so better to do this now...On mine I had to make the cut in pic to get cab down on mounts...I am using digital degree finder...original mounts...new poly bushings...no body drop....also 1/8" shims on top of poly's......pic's in few days.......jim

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
Ok not the pics I wanted (completed project!) but in these U can see problem with rear joint and stock floor.....last pic shows split 5" heavy truck exhaust tubing that will finish floor...notice pipe is thicker than stock floor..will weld in nice....Don't fret over peeled back riser...will be laid back in and welded..I had to remember curve in 5" at 1 1/2" up from stock floor is 1" inward on both sides so U peel back riser then weld back to curved section...maintaining strength in floor.....should look close to something factory could have done when finished............more later ....jim

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
That's the part I didn't want U to "fret" over and here U go....lol.....had to "peel" that riser so it will fall back in to weld to the curvature of the 5"...I promise it will be close to factory when done...........jim

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
Great build!!! Love the dash. I read thru rather quickly stopping on all the photos like most to get caught up. What is the plan with the motor. Is it an LQ9? and mods? Just trying to see what #'s you will be making and is the 4l80 stock?
Hands down you have skill, thanks for sharing your build |

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
Jim,
Looking fantastic! I'm not running a dropmember, but you are not alone. Once you get the truck so low, the drive shaft moves up. We had to deal with the as well. This is what we did to take care of it. Keep up the good work!

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
With a 2 piece there's no up and down in front of carrier bearing....so I don't need that much rear tunnel.....but having to tunnel farther than I thought in order to slide that joint in the pics out rearward when taking shaft out...more pics in day or 2....I'll make u proud....lol....thanx for looking.......jim

Thought I would name this new hump but somehow that name sounds familiar...........lol....... Sneak preview of console......sill workin out bugs.....may pull out Curello seats in am and test..........jim
