Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
Okay Okay.....pictures i get it ...
So we have the box back on again with the new rear cage.....the fuel cell goes into the middle. The batteries go on either side of the fuel cell....The rear tubs are out at the moment just to make it easier to work around. We changed up the rear cage so the cab didn't get cut at all and just the window gets cut instead....it's a bit cleaner looking i think and will be a better seal in the end.

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
The cage has been my issue.
I just haven't figured out how to re-enforce the frame without having the cage visible and hacking up the back of the cab. I don't want to see the cage outside the truck.

The cage is all finished now.....
Decided to not go with the swinging side door bars....didn't want them bashing into the doors....

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
We went with a floating seat and shifter plan.....The seats mount off the cage not the floor so they kind of just float there....When i sat in the seat....(which took forever by the way) and your all buckled up there is no way to reach anything on the dash so we will be moving the switches/ignition to the center between the seats.....not sure when I drive on the street how i am going to use the turn signals just yet. With the seat belt laws here it basically say's that if it came with belts you have to have them,if you but belts in it you have to wear them. So call me silly but I might make the harness so it comes out easy when i drive it on the street....then i can reach everything.....lol....

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
I still have a few changes to make.....
Filled a hole in the dash.....cut the hole for tunes....going to need something loud to drowned out all of the engine noise. Thinking we are going to make a gauge cluster to fit into the original dash , still not excatly sure on that just yet.

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
I am not a huge fan of the high back seats so thats going to be a change...Having a big back window cab full of huge head rests didn't seem like a good idea to me. So the plan will be ( I think ) to cut head rests down and then have a head rest that hangs off the roll cage on both passenger and driver seats. That way they could be removed when driving on the street and if it goes to the track you just pop them back in with the seat harness.

Well if it's not going to the track it would make it alot easier, if it's going to go to the track and going to run a pass....It gets way more complicated. I decided if i was going to make it possible to run that fast I might as well make it legal for the track.....in the event that oneday I want to sell it to someone who might want to race it. If i was starting the build all over, not so sure i would have done that much cage work and I would have made it more for the street.

The frame has an Art Morrison back half unit in it with a narrowed 9". I was originally going to do a extended cab/custom 5' bed job but I found a flawless 63 donor cab and couldn't bring myself to cut it. Now I have a virgin short wheel base frame I am looking at and rethinking the build. Problem is, I have 20" wide M/T street radials and I can only get 16" tires in using a stock frame. Then again I could re-enforce the frame and use no cage at all but what would be the point of using the 600+ hp motor at that point?

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
Buddy, this truck keeps getting better and better! I for one can tell you how those dang harnesses suck goat balls to be in while on the street! I like your idea. In my vette I originally had a retractable seat belt set up in it plus the harness. But, I took it out when I was cutting items to put it on a diet. The blower looks bad azz! Heck, the whole package is off the hook! I really like the look of your cage too man!

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street
I will take some pictures tomorrow when i get a chance......and then the updates will slow down as it heads to the body shop.....The body guy is building a new shop and is going to wait till it's up before starting my truck so .....that gives me time to wait and pick a color......I am guessing a couple of weeks before anything happens on that front....
soooooo while i am waiting i might do a 6 bolt drop spindle swap on my black primered truck.......or a might do a engine swap on the old blue big window truck......or start a cab for the powder coated truck frame....or i could build a addition for my shop.....or i could just drink beer and relax.....

Like the cage. Can u show us more of it and how are you mounting your seats to it? Do the seats attach to the cab at all or only the cage? If so, how are you doing the front seat mounts? Does the cage attach to the cab at all?

The cage attaches to the cab at the floor....then the cage gets picked up under the cab and down to the chassis. The two back bars that run from the floor to the roof have extra bars the run parallel to the floor and inbetween the two back bars....On the parallel to the floor bars there are steel pads to mount the seats too. So the seats mount to the cage instead of the floor if that makes sence. Then for the front seat belt portion we but tabs in under the seat off of the mounts to pick up the front seat belt. In this picture at the very bottom you can see the two pads the seats bolt to .......and the parallel bars i was talking about. Those seat mounts and parallel bars are about 5 or 6 inches off of the floor....hope that makes sence
