Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

Thanks for the well wishes for my daughter. She has severe scoliosis and they will be doing a partial spinal fusion to try to straighten the curves as much as possible.. She has an "s" curve with the largest part measuring 70 degrees!!
Here's a photo of her x-ray. It still freaks me out a little to think her spine is so bent!!

I'll post some more info in a few days.

Thanks again!!

Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

Hey all,
Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers. My daughter's surgery went well and she is doing good in the hospital starting her recovery. We'll be here until Sunday, then recovery at home for 4-5 more weeks before she can go back to school.

On the technical, "build" part of her surgery, they used 2 titanium rods, several screws and some "hooks" to move and hold everything in place. I'd love to see that "tool box". They used probably about $20,000 worth of titanium!! Here's a picture of her "after" x-ray.

It's amazing the technology and skill the doctors now have that they can do this kind of surgery!! The largest part of the curve (the middle section) was at 70 dergrees, and is now at about 20-25 degrees. They could have strightened and fused her spine top to bottom, but then she would have been rigid and have a huge loss of flexibility. By leaving the very top and bottom sections flexible, and partially fixing the middle, it will leave her with most of her normal movement and keep her head lined up well with her hips.

It's amazing the hours of planning, and consulting the surgeons do before the surgery. Kind of like building an old Chevy truck!

Thanks again for the encouragement,
Tom
