Yeah, I thought my straight pipe 4" custom system off the turbo was big on my powerstroke back when I built it... Now you can buy a 6" kit! Good Progress Ryan

And I did start tallying a total together for this thing. I'm missing some receipts, but with what I have not including the engine and some big transmission parts, I'm up to $7260. I'm sure once I figure the price of the engine, primer, paint, and all the other receipts when I add them in, it'll be over $11k.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Yeah, that is one thing I will NEVER do again. About 20yrs ago I added up most of the invoices for a vehicle I had and once I saw the number, I vowed never to do it again. Now, mind you, at the time the money I had in the vehicle might have bought me a Nissan Sentra or maybe a Corolla and I had a far cooler ride, but nontheless, I never did it again.
Glad to see some forward progress on this thing. It all looks great so far!! Get it done before winter so you can bring it down here and we'll do some wheelin' while your buddies freeze back home.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
trowing money at a car / truck in general is concidered the worst investment as that money allmost never turns a profit
i mean put hardwood floors in youre house and youre 2000 dollar investment makes the house worth 6000 more , put 2000 dollar rims on a truck and its still only worth 500 dollars more than without the rims there some exeptions like restoring some classics or verry rare cars but still.....

Yeah, I knew I shouldn't have, but I figured it might be a good idea so the next time some one asks me if I want to sell it, I won't lose my butt. I've already had 2 guys try to buy it with the old cab on it and not finished. I might have to look at my vacation schedule and try to take you up on that. If not this winter, maybe next. I was planning on flying down to the good guys show in November, but IDK if that'll work out yet or not. Quote:

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I have the final link to get my tach working. The drive cable. My brother made me one up at his work. Now I need to get this truck running so I can see how it works. I might just stick it on another truck just to watch it for now.

It is an adapter that replaces the oil fill tube on the front gear housing cover. Inside it is a drive that goes over the injection pump nut. The other end has a drive shaft and a mini gear box fits on the end of it. Then the cable hooks on the other end of the gear box. I'll take a pic of it today for ya.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
This morning in between rain storms, I started back on the truck. I started putting trim on my RH fender and realized I need some different clips for my trim that was missing. I'll be making a list of all so I don't have to make more than one trip to the local 67-72 parts man. I also cleaned my headliner and re shot it black. I will be doing the door panels tomorrow. Then to try and figure out where all the a/c stuff went under the dash in the proper orientation.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
The headliner dried, and looks better in person than in pics.
Here is a little forward progress, but not much. This is the tach drive that runs off the injection pump retaining nut. It is plastic and screws in where the oil fill tube does in the front cover.

This weekend I got my hood sanded, prepped, and primered. I also changed my door panels from olive green to black. Pics tomorrow.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Lately it has been hotter than all get out, but i'm still making head way! Here are pics of the interior color change:
Here is dissassembley of the RH door getting ready for sand blasting: Here is the hood in primer. We'll see how I feel tonight. I'd like to get the door the rest of the way taken apart and get it sand blasted. I need to get the doors back on it so I can hang the fenders and line it up.

Thank you kindly for the engine mount pictures.
What are you using to paint the visors? Is it that vinyl paint i see in the LMC magazines all the time? |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Yep, I used vinyl spray paint. I've used it in the past and it works decent. I didn't get min from LMC though. I just got it at Oreilly's or Napa. I wanted to make the swap to black with out paint, but I need ore thing worse right now. Plus a few cans of paint is cheap.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Here is the progress on the RH door. I started repairing the dent from when I caught the mirror on a building as I was pushing the truck in the shop with a skid loader about 4 years ago.

We are still waiting for summer here. Today it is 65 degrees. I'm trying to build a new garage for my projects but the ground is wet and it keeps raining.

I'd gladly trade ya some heat for that except for the constant rain. Good luck with the garage building!

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
We didn't end up going to the truck pull we were going to go to in Mo on Sat, so in between rain showers I started blasting my doors. Man was it hot, muggy and misreable. I just acted like there were hot chicks in the distance so I could get through it. All in all the doors cleaned up really well. The RH door had some rust through in the lower front corner, and the inners of both corners had holes in them. The LH door had 2 cracks in the window opening and some holes on the inner door skin from where the door was hitting the rocker panel. I was really surprised how little rust holes these actually had.
Here are repair pics. Seeing how I'm strapped for time on this truck, I decided that on the inner panels I would just use my valvoline epoxy and not cut and weld new metal in seeing how I'm in a hurry.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Last night I got the RH inner side sprayed with etch primer and sealer primer. I also cleaned up the door hinges and primed them. This morning I went back to the shop and the dang thing was kind of tacky. I put it out side in the hot sun to cure longer. Then I started on the body work on the LH inner side of the door. My hardener for my filler wasn't too happy so I will have to get some more.

Actually, I might have one I would consider selling. I need some new injection lines and they are pricey. I'm assuming you need a torque converter core too?
