Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Scored a set of chrome valve covers for Crustine's Christmas present.
Don't know what the heck the seller was thinking when he sent a bowtie breather with them.

She's getting dressed up for Christmas--cool. Have you ever seen a breather cap with GMC on it?

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
HAHA, No...Probably won't for awhile. Since I daily drive this truck the heating and cooling of the engine during the winter months creates a lot of moisture. These would probably rust in a heart beat. Probably will put them on for the shows during the spring, summer, and fall next year. I like the painted ones because I can do a quick wipe down with a towel and good to go. lol Thanks for checking in.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Well driving Crustine 24/7 has been awesome. Gas mileage kinda sucks, but nothing beats having a good reliable old truck as your daily. Anyhow....the extra pressure of the new clutch pressure plate springs finally took their toll on the bell crank. Went to stop in the middle of town and had no clutch. Doesn't look as bent out in the picture but it was plenty enough to not be able to get into or out of gear! lol
So, got up early saturday and hammered it back in place and welded it all back up. The welds from the factory were pretty poor anyhow so I turned the heat up and really laid some welds on. Works like a charm and has never shifted smoother since I've owned her. Good ol simplicity! Only took about 1.5 hours.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
What's your mileage been? My POS with the mild 350 has been getting around 12 recently. Hoping the carb swap I did today will help...although I've also been driving kind of agressively and running 70+ pretty frequently with 4.10 gears and no OD...lol

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
I get 10 in town, lotta stopping and going. When cruising I get around 12-13. I never push the v6 past 2400 rpm when cruising so I'm stuck around 53 mph. With an OD the mileage would be better.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Hey guys! Well I haven't done a thing to Crustine accept drive her 7 days a week and keep things cleaned and maintained.
Little update though, a member here (Ryan Smith) had the original 305D from his 62 GMC sitting around and he asked me if I wanted it. Well, next thing I know he's here dropping it off. Complete motor that ran and was Free! Even delivered! Thanks again Ryan! Pictures, do have some plans for this engine. Thinking turbo in the future.

haha Yeah, Crustine is a driver for now...after the 66 is done she may be in for a restore. Not sure what'll happen. Have tons of idears kickin around though.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Well now that summer is here and the weather is warm....Crustine was due for an oil change. Went with 20w-50 and Power Punch additive. That stuff works nicely.
Also had to have a bit of fun. Ol v6 still puts a smile on my face. 0-55 in 17 seconds. lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVS1W8Jdtw0
