I just love that some old farmer drove his dump truck to that new, shiny shopping center in the middle of all those shiny, new cars.

Many of these pictures were taken right about the era I was born into - late 1954. For me it's almost like looking through a window into my childhood. Not that I was focused on the cars as a little kid but the "feel" invoked by these photos is of my early childhood.

I'm surprised at the number of Elcaminos / Rancheros. I especially like seeing the '61 sandwiched between the two '59's.


I have to wonder what exchange is going on between the police officer and the young couple near the center of the photo.

Yep guys, good stuff indeed.

I know this isn't an AD, sorry for posting, but it looks soooo much like one! Other countries copied a lot of what we did here in America on car designs. That VW for instance, OMG if you were into early V8 Fords you would get it. It is said they came here and bought a 36 and a 39 Ford brought them back to Germany and dissected them for the VW. You can't believe how many things on that Bug are DIRECT from those 36-39 Fords. Some of them, no gray area, RIGHT FROM them. The wheel bolt pattern for instance, no kidding, 36-39 and only a few cars on earth that had that crazy big bolt pattern. The horn grilles in the fenders36 Ford, the "vent" windows in the doors, only 34-39 Ford, the split rear window, 37-40 Ford, the doors look like they could be off a 39 Ford for goodness sakes. One thing after another, it's amazing how many things came right from the 36-39 Ford!

Anyway, next photo, back to AD.

These pics make me feel really OLD!! Think i was under my school desk for a Russian nuclear missile attack drill when this was taken.

LMAO. I'm a bit younger but the cold war was very real when I was a child and I remember the same drills. When I pointed out how much damage the nuclear attack would do, and how far and for how many years the radiation would be a problem, my third grade teacher admitted there was no living through any attack within 50 miles. Good thing I didn't ask about Santa Clause.

Was in the middle of the whole Cuban crisis and it left a lingering hatred for communists. Think that's why i wound up a USAF nuclear attack planner.
