Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I finally got around to getting this swap done...awesome product, and the template makes the whole thing easy. Lined up with no issues at all. Actually, I had more trouble tracking down a set of brackets to mount the pump than anything else. So thanks again!

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Hello Captain.
I have a 65 C20 that needs power steering.
I would like to order a P/S box adapter and one of the tube and flange pieces.
I thought that you would be my first post but it went out looking for P/S pump brackets.
I know everyone wants pictures so will post later. Let me know payment details. Cal.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

PayPay sent. Please ship to the CA address.
I woulld just like to verify the process.
I have a 65 C20 . I will be installing a pre-76 P/S pump and box. Non metic.
Lets say 1974. So for P/S hoses I will order for a 74 truck ?
The pitman arm will also be for 74, does a Moog #6143 sound right.
The idler arm should be OK but if I wanted one it would be a Moog #K14 ?
I will change out the rag joint, to fit 74 box ?
I think thats it.
Did I miss anything ?
Just want all the ducks in a row when the time comes

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I did receive your payment Cal, thanks

I will get your order shipped out tomorrow.

Are you going to be keeping the '65 C20 idler arm, or are you also converting to front disc brakes and the '74 steering linkage? As for the hoses, that will depend on what engine you have and whether it has the short or long water pump. If you have a small block with a short water pump, I think the '68-'72 hoses would work better. If you have a small block with a long water pump, then the '74 hoses should work.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Hey John, I guess I'm about ready to change out my steering gear so if you could PM me your info I'll get some money sent your way. If I get the adapter plate from you now can I get the rest, if needed later, for the $20? I'll be changing out the stock column for a tilt but I haven't got to that part, yet.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I saw a post that said modifications to steering linkage was necessary if there was a disc brake conversion? I have just finished installing the conversion, so what changes am I going to need to make to install the power steering setup?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

What steering linkage are you running? The power steering pitman arm will bolt up to either a '63-'66 or '71-'87 draglink.

Captainfab, I'm ready to add Power Steering to my 65. It has a 292 and Iv'e converted over to disk brakes, I bought the kit from CPP. I have no idea of what it will take to get this done but I'm sure you will get me headed in the right direction.

The power steering pitman arm will bolt right up to your '64 draglink.

You're going to need a '68-'87 C series power steering box with the pitman arm, and my adapter plate to mount the box to the frame. If you are keeping the original steering column you may also consider the tube and flange, if you do not have access to a drill press and welder. Additionally you will need a power steering pump, brackets and hoses for your 292.

Would you happen to have any info on where I could find the pump brackets?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

There is a seller on ebay that fabricates some nice PS, alt and AC brackets for the Chevy I6 engines. Have you checked in the '67-'72 classifieds here on the forum? They show up over there every so often also.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Thank you, I 'm going to have to fab something up for the pump. I'm not running the stock 292. I've got a performance 327 with the double hump heads, so no tapped holes to mount to. Had the same problem on the other side mounting the alternator, the center dump manifolds I am running don't have the cast mount. But a cool bracket from Summit, some steel and the two tapped holes in the block for forward motor mounts and it all worked out.LOL And I've got a drill press and welder, you made fabbing the flange easy with your photos. So just go to my PAYPAL account and send an even $50 to your email?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

My statement about the 292 was directed at member Bigru

It sounds like you're running a long water pump? If so, that's why you're having issues mounting your accessories. If you had the short water pump, everything would bolt up with factory parts.

The power steering box adapter plate is $60.00 with shipping.
