Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
....As of 11 P.M. when I came in,7 pistons are in permanently.1 though is having oil clearance issues so its still off.Hopefully I adress that issue tomorrow and hopefully I can dig out the heads and bolt them on

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Update:
All 8 pistons are in,and bolted down,to factory specs. The next day I get a chance to work on the motor(Wednesday) I should atleast get the heads partially,if not completely bolted down. And then on from there. Also hope to blast and primer the bed in the coming weeks and get it back together.I want to get the truck together asap and let it run before the body comes back off so I can prep for paint and do body work |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Comments they better have all been good or there should have been some kicking out the door. I love watching your build and wouldn't want to hear about anything bad being said. Your progressing well and I think thats a good idea about breaking the engine in before the tear down. Keep up the GR8 work Dustin. From one of this builds closest followers RJ22

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
The hardest decision to make on the project came tonight.....the motor looks. So,I could spend months picturing what I want the motor to look like. Its a good thing I gave myself to tomorrow to decide.
The block, oil pan, and heads are going to be hugger orange.Headers are black. The intake is just a aluminum edelbrock performer. No stealthy painting it up.I already bought some chrome edelbrock valve covers, might decide to move up to the elite series though,I like the looks of them. So,now to decide on spark plug wire looms, and the bolt style to use to bolt down the intake. Also have a few personal touches in mind that some might not notice unless they look good.To bad only people at the shop will see the motor, still dont have the camera back |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I really like the allen head intake bolts Dustin I think they look cool and stand out cause they are not as common. Summit spe-46533 9.69 not a bad price either. Just a tip. RJ22
BTW they come with the tool for that price and it makes it so much easier to tighten those pesky center 4 bolts |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Which do you want to hear first? The bad news or good news?
The bad news is......its going to cost $350 to fix the camera, more than what I bought it for!Im going to just replace it with a new one. The good news......I managed tonight to get the V8 motor mount crossmember bolted down.I also un bolted and removed the front clip.Tomorrow I hope to finish the top end of the motor.Might also try to get the one bedside off the old bed. Then if I have any time left Im going to get everything off from the firewall except steering(so I can navigate it).I hope to get the firewall in primer. Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Saturday night's alright for building,Saturday nights alright...........
Anyway, after you quit thinking about the twisted and modified Elton John song I will tell you tonights update..... Tonight I managed to find the rebuilt heads I had on the shelf. They had been sitting there since last year. They were for a 2wd 71 project I had,but sold.I still miss it So,I got the air compressor and cleaned the heads and slapped them on the block.I have 2 of 3 rows of head bolts on.Tomorrow I have to finish putting in the top row of head bolts and torque everything down.Going to *try* a 850 holley carb I have and see how it does,it most likely wont stay on though |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Update:Today I pulled the bed back off to get ready for the new one to go on.One side on the new bed isnt as good as the one on the old bed so Im keeping and swapping the drivers side panel off the old one and junking the rest of it.Then that side is going to be bolted on the new bed.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Well, today I finished installing pushrods, rockers, ect and the top end is done...Well,I still need to install the distributor and intake, and buy a carb, but other then that, the top end is done. The bottom end just needs the oil pan gasket, timing chain cover gasket/cover installed.Need to get a water pump too,but the motor is very close to running status

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Well,I wish I had a camera.I temporarily put the intake, valve covers,850 holley, air cleaner, headers, and some other stuff on the top end so I could see how the motor will turn out.It looks great.Nothing beats Hugger Orange motors and chrome.
Hopefully, this week the motor might be all bolted together and ready to go in.I cut up the old short bed ("The Cheese Grater").I saved the drivers side panel to put on the other bed cause its in better shape......The current plans are to sutff the motor and tranny in,get the truck running,do body work on cab, primer it,do minor bed work, primer it,primer front clip, sand, and re assemble till the summer is over so it can be drove while it waits to be painted. It might also make the trip to Norwood for the meet. When the truck is ready for paint...the cab will come back off,as will the bed and front clip. The clip will be painted apart so the front and back of fenders, the core support, and the hood can all be painted. Not just the outside. The whole cab will be painted,as will the doors, and the bed will be painted while its together. The bottom of the cab and bed are going to be undercoated before it hits the road.If I sand and do body work now,the truck wont be apart as long before paint |
