Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
anymore info on this flip front??? My 64 has a fibreglass flip front, that is cracking and deteriorating from real offroad use... was thinking about finding a donor front set of sheetmetal and rigging something up... need more info about how other guys have done it... here's a pic of my flip front a couple years ago.. I've since added swampers and a snorkel...

Nice looking truck and welcome to the site. You have any current pics with the new tires and snorkel? What your plans for the truck? |

The plans are to slowly work my way into 36inch tires, 6inch suspension lift with new leaf springs all around... but before all that I'm gonna give her a paint job... roller or otherwise, as Ive got a couple options. The main color will be red, with gold and purple in there somehow...still not certain on the placement of the gold & purple but the body base color will be red I've experimented with different colors of red all over the primer grey on the truck to get some idea of what red I like... it's been about 5 or 6 different shades, but I've finally settled on one, so now I just have to get off my ass and get it done... anyway here's a couple pics of how she looks more recently. I have 35mm pics of her with the snorkel from afar, but they're being developed... I'll have to snap a pic with my cameraphone from the garage and post it up later to give you an idea of how that really looks... it's not an ideal snorkel setup with the flip hood, as the snorkel air filter end has to be removable in order to open up the hood... I use zip-ties for now until I see of or figure out something better...

I bought this 62 about six months ago. Someday I hope it looks as good as the blue one posted above.

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
finally got a pic of the snorkel setup from afar... I also tested out and like the red on the front grille area, so that's most likely the color she's gonna end up as for the main base...
hopefully this spring, I'll be able to finish the body prep, and get her all one color. I also want to ditch the rear bumper and custom weld one better suited to offroad use & camper towing. Actually there's a million things I want to do to this truck, but it's always about finding the cash... Anyway, thanks to everyone who posts pics of their trucks! It's awesome to see!

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
I'm sorry the ones I posted are gone. I had two Photobucket accounts, the original and a second one I upgraded to Pro (paid account) because they said I was reaching bandwidth limits. That was two years ago. I renewed for two more years 1/10 and just used that account. My computer crashed and when I got another I couldn't open my paid one, only the old original one. I asked them for help and they said there can't be two accounts on one e-mail,I must be using the wrong e-mail...BS!! I only ever used the one e-mail since I learned how to post pictures, which was by using P-bucket .So,I began using the old account until I could figure this out. Last week...BAM!!! All my pictures gone. Now I tried logging onto my paid account and it worked! After all that Bull! Well,I need to move stuff around but there's no way I can get everything back the way it was. What a mess! I have a lot of pictures all over this site that are now gone...sorry.

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Hi Folks...brand new here and I don't know if my pics will load...sorry if they don't. Anyway, I just bought this 63 K1502 to restore/rebuild etc. with my son. It's got a SBC I haven't identified yet (327 or 350) TH350 trans, original D60 rear and D44 closed-knuckle front. Body is very straight. Your thoughts? Thanks.

Thanks 62. And thanks to all for this site and thread...I've wasted several hours looking at all these great trucks. My head's swimming with ideas. Now, if only my wallet were swimming with gold coins.

I love this thread!!! Well I thought I would add my 61 K20 Detroit Diesel project(AKA screamin' Apache) to the list as well. Some minor body work, paint and a stepside long box and she will be as good as new!

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
66Gilbert..
They are all beauties.....but ya' know I like the service body the best. It looks like a newer version of the 'Powers" box on mine. Caddyhack....you sure shouldn't be to upset....that's a great start. The polka-dot seats might get you in a fight or two......but you know that we all got your back. I attached some recent pic's. I've been a little busy for the last month. First of all, I found some wreckin' yard mirrors and fixed 'em up to replace the universal Grote mirrors that were on it........More holes to weld. Then the sm420 was makin' a bunch of racket so I o-hauled it. She got so quiet that I could all-of-a-sudden hear the rear-end howlin' like mad. So I found a low mile '79 K-5 and bought the frt & rear diffs......4:11's: rear posi and big front disc brakes with a heavy-duty sway-bar. I did the rear first....had to modify the spring pads on the housing....the new rear-end was a couple of inches wider....no big deal. I added two rear leafs to address the tail sag that was going on, and then headed for the front side to deal with that mess. I started by building the bracketry for the hydro-boost....an engineering marvel in itself. Once that was finished I mounted the Saginaw P-steering box.....no biggy. But then I headed for the fire-wall. That was a different story. Took some doing. Like I said.....that's another story....... Anyway, once I got that dealt with, all I had to do was bolt up the front diff, which took a couple hours. Straight swap. No mod's. Easy. It was about time somethin' went easy. Anyway, I snapped a few pic's. As far as my suspension goes, it is all original factory order. One of these days I'll crawl under there and take a couple of pic's of the OE cast-Iron rear spring block assy. It is pretty neat...it incorporates the bump-stops and a six inch lift all in one. The original set-up allowed me to bolt on the 36" swampers with all the clearance in the world. I still added the leafs.....cause It was the right thing to do. This rig drove pretty good at first, but it sure made a difference to add the new stuff. |

Rockdriler you should start a thread for your truck. You don't see to many hydro boost on a V6.

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Yea I unfortunately bought the truck with that ford bumper and mirrors and they will be first things to go haha..
Ive seen a few of these trucks with lifts on them but was told they dont sell them??? What year springs do I need to steel them from.. I was told i can use some from another year but need to mod my hanger wich is fine but what year do I need and will I need to mod my steering also? I only want to lift it an aditional 4-6 inches so I can clear my 38 and remove that nasty bodylift Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Post pics. Lets see how many 60-66 4x4 are out there.
Caddyhack.....
If you look around, you can probably find a company in your area that can re-arch & temper your original leaf springs. There's an outfit in Portland that does them called Benz Springs......would cost you $1.65 a pound plus the cost of new bushings, and would only take a couple of days. When you take your spring-packs to them they'll ask ya' how much of an arch you want.....you can add height to your rig right then....just tell 'em you want four or six or whatever over factory and they will 'hot-set' your springs to that arch, paint them a pretty 'frame black', install the new bushings and call you to come and get them. Pretty painless and should cost you under $500. I sure don't know much about starting a thread.... but I'll try and figure it out. If you want a good factory bench seat and are heading towards Portland in the near future, give me a call. I'll take care of you on the seat. Les Hunter Last edited by A.T.
