Re: 1969 Short Wide
Which rustoleum product is that? The clean metal one, the rusty metal primer or something else entirely?

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks John! Hey, are we going to have a meet one of these days? BBQ? Was Travis or Joe organizing that thing last year? Some how, it got planned on one my fishing Saturdays and I missed the MarK tour. ....sucks anyway,
I have a lot on my plate and hope to make it to the 2011 version. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Yeah we do need to meet up for some BBQ. I'm sure now that the holidays are over it will be easier to meet up.
I learned one thing from last years meet... I won't be planning this years Last year was a disaster for planning with the fact that there was so much drama that led up to it. The meet itself was a blast, and the tour was awesome. Can't thank BigMac enough for that. Maybe our Oklahoma moderators will chime in here to get the ball rolling for this years meet. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I say we do informal meets. We pick a place to meet up and eat. That way people with different schedules can all get a chance to get together. Also, we could get some short cruises into the mix.
Say, we could do one around Tulsa'ish and then people like Cheby would be a bit closer to participate and the central Oklahoma people that go will get a chance to kick it with the Tulsa people. .... Sorry to thread jack!

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I started putting things back together this past weekend. I got the front crossmember permantly mounted, upper and lower control arms and started installing the new spindles. The springs are a major pita without the normal weight of the truck. I rented a spring compressor but it works like crap. I think if I trimmed about .75" off the screw shaft it would work better, but it has to be dissassembled to get it out of the spring.
Hope to get the front end rebuilt this week and start on the rear. I did get the new rear control arm bushing installed. Not too sure about the durablilty of the Rustoleum, it scratches really easy. Not too sure any paint would survive the spring install with the compressor I'm using? Installed new bushings Motor stands before. (not sure I'm using them with the LS motor?) Motor stands after. Steering gear box blasted and primered Dust shields blasted and painted Spring and spindle installed Looks like I need some clearance here? Spring compressor, anyone know which kind works best??

Re: 1969 Short Wide
The guys using rustoleum on their trucks have discovered using a valspar hardener with it really helps the durability. Might be worth a try.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks!
Hey, that sounds like a good idea. I kinda wish I had tried it, but oh well the rustoleum should slow down the rust for daily driving. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks John!
Thanks RC! Small update: Got my new rotors installed and started assembling the steering components. Found out Rock Auto sent me the wrong tie rods (twice!) dang it. Also found out my 67 frame is different from the 69 where the steering box mounts. So I will need to make some spacers. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
we both need to start getting out trucks running! a guy by the name of gaswgon he grounded the steering gear box and put a small dent in the frame and it worked you could use some washers though

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Your spindles are the Belltech #3120 correct?
This is a 71-72 spindle. (different ball joint, different outer tie rod, and outer tie rod thread direction) What are you using for a centerlink and inner tie rods? 67-70 or 71-72?

I am using a full 71-72 front suspension. The PO had switched the 69 front and rear for the 5 lugs. I ordered everything from Rock Auto for a 72. Did I miss something? thanks, |
