Very good welding, I didn't even start until I was 16.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Thanks for the kind words on my boy's welding. He's picked it up pretty fast and I couldn't be happier. This is the first time that I'm not going to weld over anything or add to.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
wuss721- You gotta post some pics of the Burbs on here man.
Just a heads up on what I'm talking about. A few houses down from my mothers house. There's a nice 53 suburban. I've been try'n to stop by and see if it was for sale. Unfortunately my wife has always been with me and threatened to kick me out, if I bought a new toy. Turns out it's wuss721's dads burb. and, he's got one too. Some guy's have all the luck.LOL Bam- Thanks man, I wish someone would have started me out really young. Oh well, now I just have to play catch up.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
I put a little time in the garage today. Made up some covers for the seat tracks. Mounted my gas pedal and reworked the brake lever some to get it closer to the gas pedal. I'm not to happy with the seat showing through the rear window. However, The seat height feels "right" now. It felt somewhat low before. I'll have to cut the seat back down some later.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
The truck is really coming along nice. I was blown away at the quality of your son's welding. If he can weld like that at 11, then he has a real future ahead of him. His welds look nicer than some "experts" who do fabrication for a living.
As a Dad, I'd be tempted to get him his own project, and turn him loose and let him do 100% of the fab work. Imagine how cool that would be to drive it to high school? He would be teaching the Auto Shop instructor a thing or two! We've always had hot rods around the house, but my son is more into music than cars. That might change when he starts driving.

sgtusmc
i just went thru your build, outstanding work! ![]() never thought the 88 frame would work as well as you made it work. the 88 to 58 bed retrofit is pretty amazing too. your a lucky man too, my wife shows no interest in working/driving/cruising in/on my truk. ![]()

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
OrieG- That bumper looks really good. I looked for a nice used one locally and via the net. But, never could find one in my price range.
chevyrestoguy- Thanks for the good words on my boy. I'd be afraid to let him loose on a project. He's really into the Halo video game. I could see him building a Halo Warthog...lol All B/S aside, it does sound like a great idea. _Ogre- Thanks for the kind words and checking out my build. The frame swap was a lot easier than my s10-53 swap.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
We found a color. It's satin slate blue. I used the bed side of the doner truck as a rollpan. I still have a lot of welding and grinding to do. Just thought I'd share.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Thanks guy's. I shot it with my gun, it's just a color that my uncle mixed up for us. I wasn't sure about the color at first, so I just shot a mist on the fender. I think I can live with it.
