Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Joe that truck looks awesome! I need to have someone photoshop that white to get an idea of what mine will look like.
Ryan yeah I think it will be fine. I got other priorities first as you know but once I find a bed it's getting chopped. I think it will fit what I want. I just don't want to cut it before I have a bed so I can at least use it. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Tuesday the motor should be pulled out of this truck and dropped into my k10 hopefully. I got my k10 all torn down this weekend and ready for tr 6.2/465/205 to be dropped in.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
No new update on this truck really. I got the 6.2/sm465 shoved into my k10 and that truck is running. Doing some suspension work on it to get it to set a little higher.
Plans for this truck have finally changed again. This has been a long time that these have changed, just have not really posted about them. The truck is going to stay a long bed. But it is also gaining another two tires back. I have decided with the cummins in the truck I might as well make my truck for working. And what says a work truck more than 6 wheels. I have dibs on a dodge dana 60 for the front with 3.54 gears and so I will either find a dodge dana 70 or 80 for the rear with 3.54 gears to match the front. As for the stance I am looking to maybe go with 4 inches of lift and a 35x12 inch tire which will require spacers in the rear. Kind of like this truck. I have also been looking at maybe running 19.5's with some retread tires that are 33 inches tall. I figure these tires would last longer, and they have some really nice tread on them. My dually bed is rusted out, has good fenders but the box is trash. I am thinking about building a custom flat bed for the truck. I have a plan on building it and keeping it as low to the frame as possible. In other news this truck is on hold yet again. About two months ago I got a new four wheeler. Well been riding that a ton. Well then that comes to the real news. Me having fun on my fourwheeler got a little carried away going around a turn and slid into a tree. Resulting in the following. So Ive been stuck in bed for the past three weeks and looks like it will be another two or three before I can walk on it again. So my summer has been fun...

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Hahaha I high sided my dirt bike a few years ago after going a little too fast on the street while it was wet, and with no front brake.... Well a tendon ended up pulling a chunk of bone off a (bigger) bone in my foot. The doctor told me to stay off of it for 6-8 weeks but I had enough of that and was walking on it again after 4 1/2 and I didn't go back for my follow up appointment, I just took a **** ton of calcium. LOL Have fun with that dude!

That sucks, can't get anything done that way.
I wrecked a streetbike a long time ago, pulled all the tendons out of my right ankle. still hurts all the time.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Yes it is tough to decide. I have started walking on my leg and been able to wear shoes some so I hope to be back in the shop soon, just dont want to hurt it so im not in a rush. I think the truck may be staying a SRW, I want to make it a dually, but after looking at prices of tires I am going to have to hold off on going dually. So the truck will probably just be getting 6 inches of lift and running some 37 inch hummer tires.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
So I have not been messing with this truck, been getting back to the ol grind after breaking my ankle. Been working on the k10 to get it where I want it for now and been cleaning out 30+ years of stuff out of the shop to make more room for my projects, have a ton of scrap to haul off so that will be nice to have the extra money.
I did some swapping of tires I had laying around to see what I wanted to do with this truck. Looks like I will be running 2 inches of lift in the front (Rear sets 4 inches higher right now) and will be running 285/75r16's. I have a line on 4 used ones for right now which will all go on the back. I have some 33's on some 16.5 wheels that I will run for now till I get a D60 to throw under the front and I will find some more 285/75r16s for the front then. Truck as it has sat for the past couple months. As you can see I have my 33's bolted to the front right now just to see what kind of clearances I would need. 2 inches should give me the correct lift needed to run the tires I want, and will still keep my truck low enough so I can pull a gooseneck and be able to load stuff into the bed of the truck. Hopefully it will find its way back into the shop soon.

Looking good man! I really like the look of a wide front SRW wheel on a DRW truck with a SRW hub. Keep at it man!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
I'm actually starting to dig that look as well. The only thing is they don't make a wheel that is srw that looks like the drw. I like matching wheels. Plus those wheels on the front are a 16.5x12 wheel and 16.5 tires are expensive if you find them. But it does look mean with the extra wide tire on the front. I'm keeping at it, I've had a ton of motivation lately, but you know what my hold up is

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Use eagle alloy aluminum round 8 hole wheels in the front and their drw aluminum round 8 hole wheel in the rear and they will be really close to matching that way.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
We will see what happens. I can get a dodge DRW d60 when ever I want, but I probably wont get that till after I get the truck running with what its got under it.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
So I was browsing craigslist the just the other day and came across a guy selling a 4 inch lift kit with shocks and all for $250. I was just going to go with a 2 inch lift for the truck but with the price of the 4 inch lift kit I could not pass it up.
Brand new kit, never opened So I got to work and in about 30 mins I was able to get the springs installed. Front sits about 6 inches higher than it did before, the rear needs to come up but I am not going to worry about that till I get the drivetrain in to see how it sets and then adjust the rear from there. I really like how high the truck sets, i just hope the 33's im going to run dont look to small.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Rustoleum red primer then scuffed and sprayed Rustoleum gloss black. You reduce it with acetone and add an enamel hardener for a much nicer/ tougher finish.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Yeah I am almost starting to think it may be a 6 on my truck too. My dad and I both stood on the front of the frame and jumped on it and it does not move much at all, but between us we are only about a 1/3 of the weight of the motor so I am sure the motor will lower it just a little bit and over time it will settle some.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
Both your guys's springs look like 6" lift springs to me. Usually 4" springs don't have that much arch to them. My Longhorn has 4" rough country springs on it and they aren't arched nearly as much as your guys's. (Even with no engine in the truck)
Looking good Matt!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab
So I picked up some 285/75r16s for cheap and started mounting them.
Need 1.25" or 1.5" spacers for the rear. Was taking one tire off the rim and found out it had a tube in it. Started looking at the valve stem and found a wallowed out hole. So I welded it up and will drill a new one for it soon. So that's all I have for updates. Gotta figure out how much the front is going to drop with the weight of the motor, transmission and transfercase so that I can figure out how much the rear needs to come up.
