Your question about the 3 holes in the glovebox door is correct, they are stock mounting holes for the trim piece that goes there. IMO I would go with at least 2 dowels ~and~ use the double sided tape to mount that. In one of my future builds I am going to do a wood trim interior, I have always thought that looked pretty classy (up until I found out later that most of it all was a decal laminate that only looked like wood grain....)

Re: My own build thread
Thanks you! You don't happen to know if anyone remakes the nuts that hold the A/C controls on do you? I've looked everywhere, they look like threaded washers with two slots cut into them. I'm missing one... Grr!

Re: My own build thread
If I could find my old one, I would send you that nut, I know which one you are describing.

Re: My own build thread
Thanks Everyone! I ordered some 60-62 Covette nuts, they look the same but I won't know if they work until they get here. I hope they work, damn things were 9 bucks a piece...
Anyway I've been working my butt off but everything I put together seems to need something fixed. I went to install the new side windows and realized the wheels were broken on the passenger side window regulator. After some research I realized you have to buy the whole regulator... So I searched some more and found a guy that used some shower door wheels from lowes to fix his jeep. I figured what the heck I might as well try and it worked! For 4 bucks I fixed my regulator. Here is how I did it. Drill out the rivets holding the old wheels "or what's left of them" out. This is the broken wheel on the regulator. ![]() Here are the shower wheels. There are a few sizes so pick the ones that fit the closest, you have to shave them down to fit. ![]() This is how much smaller I had to make the wheels, you also have to make them thinner by sanding on the side with the nut and bevel them so the slide into the tracks. ![]() I use these sanding disks on a high speed grinder, they work very well. ![]() Here it is in the track. ![]() Stack a few washers under it to get the correct distance for the tracks ![]() This shows the original wheels and the new ones I replaced them with ![]() You may want to buy some screws that are 1/4-1/2 longer than the one supplied because once you stack the washers behind the nut the original screws only catch a few threads. I also used red lock tight so everything stays together. Here's the door panels on with the door handles. I polished the handles too ![]() ![]() Here's the door glass in, I'm really happy how tight everything fits with all the new gaskets. It rolls up and down very nicely! ![]() For my project tonight, I get to figure out how to reassemble the newly re chromed GMC grill. I'm converting the lights to H1/H4s but they will look like stock lights until I turn them on. I rebuilt the headlight buckets and painted them black. Installed the new springs etc. ![]() Last edited by zippeay; 03-04-2014 at 01:01 PM. |

Re: My own build thread
I was just informed that you CAN buy the rollers from Classic parts... And I thought I was being cool. I guess this works too but I would probably order the wheels.

Re: My own build thread
A little update.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's coming together nicely! I'm really pleased with the chrome but I may have to add something under the grill to fill in the space a little. I'll have to see what it looks like out in the open. |

Re: My own build thread
Do a single floating flat bar in the roof color. Shape the ends the same as the shape of the grile ends??
