Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Also wanted to ask a question...
I know a lot of folks like to keep the old patina paint look on their vehicles, and not paint them... Since I decided to paint mine, and my body panels are basically straight like they are, with a few dings here and there... I was thinking of not putting any body filler on my truck, and just keeping it like it is, dings etc. intact... Any thoughts?

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
If you're going to fauxtina the truck, keep 'em.
If you're painting all new and pretty, fill 'em. But that's just my opinion.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
My opinion would be what's the plan for the truck to just be pretty and take it out on the weekends or going to be a semi daily driver?
If it's going to sit and be pretty fill them, but if it's going to get some use leave them because sooner or later it'll get more dents etc.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
My opinion is to fill them and make the truck as straight as possible. You have dumped a wad of money into it already. I myself wouldn't want to have all that money tied up in the truck only to have the body full of dings and such. JMO.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
just dropped about another 1500 on engine parts on my high horsepower Olds 455.
I have another 455, more of a stock build almost done, engine builder cmengines said a couple of weeks and I'll have it All the parts/machine work/labor was donated so I don't mind waiting a little longer

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
Ordered a complete set of frame clips for the fuel, tranny and brake lines from inline tube.
Totally Stainless forgot to include the upper control arm shaft nuts, and the bolts that hold the upper ball joints to the arm. They are on their way

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
All kidding aside you have done some things with your truck that I wish I could have done to mine. My funds dictated what I could do and dried up a bit faster. I still have some set back for the body and paint work though.
Looking forward to you to start putting the ol truck back together. So whats the deal the the 455's. You have two of them now? I guess I didn't quite follow that.

an engine builder from Ohio offered to build me another 455 at cost, plus free machine work. i am having him build me a monster, it will wind up around 5 grand or so, about half of what it normally would be. Someone has also offered to build a 461 Pontiac from a 400 block for me, i'll have to see how that works out. I may have an engine for sale soon... I have a spare TH350 or a TH400 that could go with it

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
I just ordered a clip set for the fuel and brake lines... once that is in, i'll hook up all the brakes, i got everything except the emergency brake cables... waiting on them.
Once that is all done, and the little things needed to finish the frame/steering, the motor will be here(I hope)

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
You can't beat free stuff, that's great of them to help you out. You might want to think about giving that free motor away to another deserving soul.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
I hear ya... I already did a good deed, I gave away my 67 GMC step side to a guy who needed it for parts... he's broke like i've always been, so I wanted to see it go to someone who actually would do right by it.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado
That's awesome man! It's awesome to see things like that happen where people take care of our vets.
I have to be honest there's not many men in this world that would do things like that giving away a truck, and I have the utmost respect for people like that I've had family even serve one of my best friends serves as well. Can't ever say thank you enough for what you have done for our country to protect not just my freedom but everyone's freedom!
