Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Mr incredible, thank you.
Here are the pictures from the weekend. I made up new running board mounts. I used 1x1 1/16 box with 3/4 3/16 stock welded to the inside. Then drilled and tapped for 1/4-20. I ground the spot welds and removed the factory ones. Then plug welded the new ones at the right places. It work out great. I then finished fitting the splash aprons and welded a 3/16 rod to the edges after it was bend to the profile of the edge. Next is the steering and the brake peddle assembly. Also the bracing for the fire wall to the peddle assembly. Here are the pictures. Shannon Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

very nice shannon, I was gonna ask you about the edge on the filler pans, but then I went up and read what you did.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Oldman3, thank you.
Mr incredible, thank you and I will keep rolling. 99 to life, thank you, that is the best way I came up with. Well I will try this again, nothing worse than writing everything up and with the way the site is now with uploading pictures and loseing everything This weekend i worked on the brake pedal assembly and the steering. I made a plate for between the booster recess and the pedal. Then used 1 inch box tubing to span from cowl to cowl. The also to the area where the hood bolts up. Also tied in the booster plate so the fire will not push when breaking. Nice and strong now. Next was to put on the lower steering joint and mock up the dd shaft to check for the steering column placement. The lower mount is made out of a piece of round tubing and has a 3/8 nut welded to it to lock the column in place. There will be an aluminum bushing so it does no t crush the column. The upper is going to be a connecting rod. I picked one up tonight from a buddy. Picture will follow. Shannon Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
looks great, def stealing your column idea on the floor, little extra security and even nice to get the column where you want it, then tighten it up so you get all the linkages right for the steering by yourself.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
oldman3, Thank you
mr incredible, Thank you youngrodder, Thank you. I alway love to post my stuff that way if someone is doing something the same way, they can see how I did it. And hopefully it will work for them. 99 to Life, Thank you. That seemed like a good way of doing it. I am going to turn up the aluminum bushings for the upper and lower mount after work tomorrow. Then hopefully I can get them in this weekend. I am driving a old military truck that I put panels in years ago to a 9/11 / veteran ceremony on Sunday. So it is taking up some of my hot rod time but it is for a great cause. 69CST-V, Thank you Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
I turned my upper and lower bushings out of aluminum. Then slit them in half. I turned flanges on both of them so they will not push through. I put the steering column where it belonged and figured out where to cut the connecting rod off at. I took a piece of round bar stock and drilled and tapped it. Then cut it at 3.5 inches. I then TIG welded it to the connecting rod. Then fit it on the column and made tabs with holes in it.Bolted it up together and TIG welded the tabs to the 1x1 box I put across the cab. Column is nice and strong. Now all I need is a wheel to steer it.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Been following your work. Very impressive. I have a 1950 that i'm trying to work on. Right now I wish I have half your skills and tools! I have ideas but need to go ahead and try them. So far I just have the body off the frame. Need to clean it, paint it and figure how to install the front crossmember.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Chevyboy73, thank you.
99 to life, thank you. 48 GMC BURB, thank you, give an idea and I will make it happen. Glad you like it. Oldman3, thank you. bubba54 , thank you, it was easy to do. I just turned up bushings to make it work. Av8tr33337, thank you. It did work out great. Feel free to use it. Yawdie1, thank you very much, tools really make it go easier. If you ever think I can help you with something give me a shout. Always glad to help. Oldman3, I know , I know. I have been crazy busy, ken has me doing a frame quickly for his wife's 47 chevy double duty box truck. It is a 3600 frame, I put 87 1/2 ton suspension in the front. It has bags in the front, leafs in the back with 6" bags in the back for helpers. I have the 350 motor and 700r4 mounted all ready. Waiting for the rear bags. Have to finish the rear shocks and bags this weekend and hopefully mount the steering box and idler arm too. Bend up brake lines and install hoses and then he can take it back to Md. You know just setting around! Shannon Posted via Mobile Device
