This is why I love this board! I like the idea of longer arms and single wheel hubs instead of that long space between the bearings and the hub flange. Not to mention the unsprung weight of that one-ton hub!

Lo, when you say "the stock set-up won't work"---do you mean with the semi wheels (like the pic, and like Rus will use)? In other words; mine is a '72 C20, I will run stock 16" steel one-ton wheels, shorter-than-stock tires (IDK the height yet), stock subframe, PB lengthened arms & bags, & C20 or C30 SW hubs. If I (I mean Nate) get the hub-to-hub dimension right, I should be good to go, huh? I know it won't lay frame, but at a lowish ride height, it will prob be driveable, or will it?

Hope I didnt get off into hijack territory Rus, but like you, I love it when I find a man who knows!

You might be ok with 16" wheels.
The PB arms are for the guys spending the CA$H to run semi wheels, and lay frame.
In your case,... I would just run dually hubs and stock a-arms with bags and cups.

Have you mocked up your front end, with the wheels you will be using, yet?

Yeah I need to give him a call tomorrow. I am actually looking at a set of wheels tomorrow. I hope to be able to do a mock up on paper as in... knowing the wheel offset, thickness of the 8to10 lug adapter and the track width with from hub to hub vs the width from inside of fender to inside of fender. Hopefully I can get it close. Who knows maybe I'll talk to Nate and he will know exactly what I should do! Thanks for your help Keith!

The 3500 came in the half tons and the 4500 came in the 3/4-1 tons. If I understand correctly the 4500 has a granny gear and I'm not really looking for that so I want to go with the 3500. If I pull anything it won't be much so I think it will serve me well!

Towing with a NV3500 is going to be hard on the clutch if you are decently heavy. I have an NV4500 going into my 1970 GMC. I plan to tow with it so I wanted the deeper first gear to get 20k worth of steel rolling off the light. Ideally a NV5600 is what I wanted because it has better gear splits and I have towed with one a lot and love this trans. 1st 5.63 2nd 3.38 3rd 2.04 4th 1.39 5th 1.00 6th 0.73 R 5.63 But they are super spendy. Still better than an SM465. IMO

Awesome info. I know hauling with a 465 is hell. Going up hills you might as well forget going anything over 30mph. You may hit 40 depending on your rear end gears.

My '03 GMC has a NV3500 from the factory. I've read its good in its stock form for about 300-350 hp. I'm not sure what you have in store under the hood, but something to keep in mind.

UPDATE!!

I talked to the Porterbuilt fellas today and the plan is to run 1 ton spindles with the stock length arms. After the added length of the 10 lug adapter minus the monster offset of my 22" semi wheels, they should then squeeze up inside the fenders!!


I bought 4 of them today!! Hoot Hoot!
