Re: 56 shop truck build
damnit and I'm going to miss the show by a week. I'll be in the city next weekend. Have fun at the show man.
It's amazing how many looks these old truck get when you roll down the street, even with the multi colored paint job that mine is currently sporting

Re: 56 shop truck build
I never did post up a completed door panel pic. The blue is Hot Rod Flatz Diamond Blue Metallic and the mexican blanket wraps were done by my better half.
I also include a shot of the Dirtbag waiting patiently for his rad to come back from being repaired.

Re: 56 shop truck build
thanks Kim.
We had a surprise yesterday when we took the truck out to grab some groceries. About 1km from home, the truck died, it was getting fuel but no spark it seemed. So we pulled it over to the side of the road checked everything out and nothing I did was working. About 15 minutes later I decided that the only thing that would effect it that I hadn't checked was the choke. I pulled the wire off the electric choke and it fired instantly. It also turned out that I didn't have my tail lights plugged into the right spot on the light switch, they came on when the park lamps were on but as soon as you turned the head lights on, they went out. Then I spent about 15 minutes going around the entire truck and greased it all up. It sure makes a big difference in the ride quality when everything is properly lubed.

Re: 56 shop truck build
hahaha yeah pretty much. We went out cruising last night with a buddy of ours. He just picked up a nice 59 Biscayne 4 door, straight as an arrow driver (even though it's pink and white) to use as a partial parts donor for his 59 Bel Air 2 door project he's been working on for years.
It's kind of a nice feeling to not be that hot rodder wanna be after 3 years of not having anything to cruise with in the summers. It was a really good night. It made the past 16 months of building this truck all worth it

Re: 56 shop truck build
thanks man, we're really happy about how this truck is turning out. Now that we've put almost 100 miles on it, things are starting to settle and feel a lot more comfortable.

Re: 56 shop truck build
canadian and american vehicles had different names back then
3100 vs 1300, chevy vs maple leaf for old trucks, ford trucks and vans vs mercury trucks and vans even cars had different names ford falcon vs mercury frontenac, chevy II vs acadian, acadian was also used for chevelle and chevette

Re: 56 shop truck build
Well, the plates expire for this years cruising season today so we took it out for one last spin yesterday. My daughter made a short video of it back out of the shop. Now comes the task of body and paint

Re: 56 shop truck build
Hey Tim this is the first time Im getting around to your build thread and I spent my lunch hour going through the whole thing. Very cool bro, from the story of how you got the truck, to your trials and tribulations along the way (like we all have), to the added bonus of having a cool wife who enjoys lending a helping hand. COngrats on all counts bro and enjoy the truck.
One question: sounds like the motor is somewhat built. What made you go for the ram horns rather than headers? all the best and congrats again, Mark |

Re: 56 shop truck build
the major reason was fitment. The location of the engine, combined with keeping the factory steering box on the inside of the frame left limited space for headers. Rather than crap shoot it and buy 2 or 3 different types, I just went with the nostalgic looking ram horns. They were period correct and fit in with the entire build. I may end up switching to headers next year to allow this beast to breath a little better, I just have to find the right ones
Thanks for the props on the build man. It was a busy 14 months, and now we start the body and paint

Re: 56 shop truck build
I hear ya man I'm in the same nots and will likely go with ram horns when I install the new crate motor in my 58, although I'm sure there are headers like block huggers that will work even with the stock steering box. I've heard some day the ram horns flow pretty good anyway
