I was thinking, ''Wait, What happenned to his paint? Didn't he just repaint the whole rig?''
Then I realized this was a C/10 Fleetside, not the C/20 long Stepside.

Good luck on removing the roof support.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Fifty-something years ago, glaziers would use a thin sheet of porous rubbe, and wet it with regular motor oil. This dissolved the rubber and it got super tacky, then cured hard with the glass in the frame. I don't think you can get that stuff anymore. I replaced the regulator in my '71 Jimmy in 2006. A friendly glass shop -- they'd just replaced my windshield and trim surround -- let me use some silicone or urethane they had. Industrial stuff. Took 24 hours to harden. We taped the drivers side window and they said not to break the tape for a day. Turned out I was on location in Phoenix, summer of course, and it was at least 114*. I don't have A/C.
The vent windows were fine then. But a PO's sloppy rivet on the drivers side tells me my vent windows were not original.
I kind of rely on winging the vents all the way out for forced air. Us Rednecks call it ''System 2-40.'' Roll down both windows and drive at least 40 MPH.
Early this spring, the tension on the drivers side vent wing went slack. No spring tension al all.* Shaft may have broken, or retaining nut fallen off. Won't know till I pull it.
A couple of years ago [pre-covid] I talked with a guy in the Northwest, who did pairs of vent windows for what I thought then was a lot. His price is double that now.
OER vent window sets are spendy now too.
*For now, Iuse a bunji cord to wing the vent out. Hassle when I have to lock the truck.

Not today really but will be soon. I received my new battery cables from Roger Koop and they are top notch as Rogers stuff usually is. It's just time to replace the 51 year old factory battery cables, especially the negative one.

New plug wires.
Filled radiator.
5 gallons of new gas in the relined tank.
Cranked for 30 seconds.
Pumped go fast pedal.
Cranked for another 10 seconds, she fired up and ran.
Had a gas line, carb/filter leak.
Fixed that. Fired right back up again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Got in my new "custom" SPID from Jeff Lampe at the Out in the Shop today. I f**k up the first one, which I knew I would do one way or the other, so I am glad I was smart enough to have ordered two.

Jeff Lampe does fabulous work - I don't think there is anywhere else you can get a SPID that looks this close to original

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Hopefully fixed the leak in the speedometer gear housing, cleaned up the PCV valve as a precautionary move, and looked for my oil leak up front. Looks like timing chain cover and if I go in that deep I guess a new gear/chain set would be in order along with water pump on this old engine. Might go ahead and get the correct set of pulleys for power steering install.

Parts are starting to arrive for my upcoming projects. Add to this my shock relocator kit, and lowering brackets for the front sway.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Today I made up some new lines for the 68 . Old lines were good but someone buggered up the fittings looked like they used vise grips to loosen them . I don’t use the flare tool all that much but it definitely makes life easier

The nickel copper lines make the bends easy I used the bending tools just for the sharp bends

Jacked it up to remove the sway bar and install its lowering brackets. Then I might get going on the steering joints replacement.

That was on the original SPID and I am adding the Super bit to my truck (just need to add the fender badges). Here's a photo of the cab, the headliner is black too.

For reference, here is my original SPID

Here is the new to compare in one post

Today I add a "68-72 Chevy/GMC C10 Truck Chrome Ignition Switch Key Chain Scratch Guard" (KEY0849-386) from JLFabrication. Took forever to get it because it was back ordered. My keychain was really working a number on the dash paint.

In case anyone wants to get it or something else from JLFabricationn here's a coupon code: THANKYOU5
