Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Changed the oil. I don't remember the last time I did that, but after coming back from our rental house with the oil nice and hot, I finally did it. I don't normally take the truck over there, but I had to have a nice long straightedge to guide the circular saw to trim down a gate. I build things to tight tolerances, and when I built that gate 8 years ago, it was dry and summer. With all this rain, the wood swelled up and the gate was hard to open and close. I'm sure that it has been this way in the past with rain, but the renters never complained. If they had said something, I'd've been all over it. My best complaint about them (after 9 months of not paying rent!)- we had a new toilet put in the rental house, and for whatever reason, the plumber only turned the house water supply valve on part way. Two weeks after that, they were complaining about low water flow. While I will say that the plumber should have opened the valve all the way, they should not have waited two weeks to say something. When I went over to look at the problem, and found it, one of the renters said, "****", because he knew that even he should have seen such a simple problem, having worked for a plumbing company in the past.

Put a trickle charger on the battery... does that count for anything?

I did a rear frame C notch, 4 shocks, greased the front suspension, tracked down a trans leak on my 84 squarebody....all in preparation for the hot rod power tour this year.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Started on my 68 a seat . Ran into a snag the original foam is most likely compressed and the skin is fitting loosely. So I’m going to add some filler to it either poly fit wrap or put jute backing behind the foam . Guess I’ll have a delux or CST seat in a plain Jane .

I've heard that if you put a damp cloth on top and use your wife's iron it will pull the grain up

I fixed it by sanding the finish off and lightly wetting it with distilled water. Which popped the grain I let it dry completely sanded then resealed with 5 coats in the repair area and one coat over the entire board .

Repair , it slightly altered the grain but you need to look real close

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Not at all too happy with the seat skin . PUI brand I added the fiber mat which helped with the top and sides fitting tight overall the seat skin is tight ,but no matter how much I stretch the vinyl and heat the puckers won’t come out . If I pull too hard the piping gets distorted around the perimeter . I’m thinking the one side isn’t stitched correctly . Had the same problem with a PUI headliner in my Chevelle . They puckered it at the seam while sowing it .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Don’t believe this skin is for a 68 full foam even though the box and paperwork say it is . I had to modify it to fit the seat frame . The seat bottom is suppose to clip all around the perimeter was about an inch to long . I had to put a wire in the felt and hog ring it . I got the pleats to line up on one side and the other side is off by about 1/4 of an inch no excuse for that . But it’s together not perfect but it’ll have to do .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

And somewhere during the process I lost the little clip that holds the spring and wire linkage . So I made a new one out of a left over piece of tool steel from knife making. Lots of hand filing as I didn’t want to overcut it on my belt grinder . Not my favorite thing to do in 90+ degrees . Turned out pretty well
