Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I started installing the AAW harness and I am having way too much fun. It really was worth the investment. New ignition, new headlight switch, Hi-low beam switch. Im impressed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Regarding the AAW harness. I did find out that in the directions they tell you to drill 2 #10 holes to support fuse holder. It was too large of a hole and I had to find 2 larger screws to secure it.

No pics but I had a productive day for the 72. I cleaned the paint booth and moved the all the parts in for our start at a two tone job in the morning.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I added this 48 gallon auxillary fuel tank. Today I will fill it up if I can afford too! I will easily get over 1000 miles per fill up though and that will be nice.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I pulled the trigger and bought a new overdrive tranny....

I left the cost out of the picture, but I can add it back in if everyone is interested in what a total purchase from bowtie would cost.

More info and pics to come after I receive the crate!!!

That seems about right. What made you go for the 200 instead of a 700?

I currently have a th400 in the truck, so after looking up the specs 2004r & 700r4.
It looks like the 2004r will swap right into my truck as is.
No need to move the crossmember, no need to get a new drive shaft (except the yoke change).
So it made since to just go with the 200.
The gear ratio in the 200 is almost the same as the th400, just a tad lower.
So no loss there, just gain with over drive.
It just made since all around!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Thanks for the info, I have to change a 72 Gm from 3spd standard to 4spd auto, will have to be careful in length and see which is the same. Is there any electrical to it for 4th lockup or just tv cable adjustment.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I started removing misc stuff. The truck goes into paint jail on Tuesday. I picked up my seat from the upholstery shop on Saturday. I like it but the color did not match all of my other painted trim pieces. Oh well. Looks like I will have some time to get them all squared away while the body and paint are getting done.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Guess what I did today. The first picture is your clue. I try to get all the use out of my cut off wheels I can! The second and third show the cuts I made to the frame to allow clearance for the gas tank. I intend to mount it with the mid flange up against the upper edge if the frame rail. I have some 1/8" strap stock that I will form to support the tank. It will look like a factory installation when I am done. At least that is what I am shooting for. I will be fabing up a receiver that will box in the frame at the rear and add strength. The last picture shows the filler necks current location. I will need to get creative with the frame at that point to allow clearance to get to the tail light filler. I had to cut a little of the top rail to allow me to drop the tank into place. I will re-install all that I can to have a spot to bolt the bed securely. Tomorrow I hope to pressure wash the back half so I have clean metal to work with. I will be fabing my c notch's and shock relocation brakets and moving my shocks. Onward!

Wow. You have more guts then i do. Looks like it is gonna fit snug as a bug in a rug. Will you reinforce frame? What size tank is that? Happy welding!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Drove it to my daughter's about 60 miles away, drove them around a some this afternoon and loaded some wood from the tornado over there on the truck to take back to their house. Ended up hauling the wood back home with me tonight. All told I put around 176 miles on with only a few minor problems ( rear brake dragging and weak pressure plate causing clutch to slip if I push it too hard). I'm gonna put in another clutch soon as I can and replace some of the brake hardware on the right rear. Pretty happy with the old truck after having it on the road for two weeks!

It "did" fit tight. I had to massage the opening a bit. Trying to figure out how to modify my bed floor now. This gas tank stuff is way harder than anything else I have done. It makes me think a bit. I really don't want it hanging low in the back. I won't be hauling anything so I am not too worried about reinforcing the frame. The receiver I fab up for boxing in the frame should do it. The tank is about a 28 gallon tank. Cruising size
