Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Replaced the brake booster today.
Now it really stops! As soon as I'd start the truck, the pedal was sucked to the floor.

I was noticing the engine not running as smoothly, and it was a vacuum leak in the booster. Apparently, cause now it stops like it was new and the engine purrs like it should.

Happy that's all it was.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Thought I buttoned up the 68 Goldens brakes . Bled the system no air in the system but the rears aren’t working properly I have firm brake peddle the rear is weak if I put it in drive at idle the Speedo goes to 15 mph hit the brake it slows to about 4 or 5mph . I ordered a new master as this one looks to be a rebuilt but it doesn’t look like the correct one . It is rectangular and has two equal rectangular reservoirs. I ordered a new Acdelco

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

The passenger front shoes were heat damaged the drum cut without an issue so that’s a plus . Had to use the grips to hold the old rear rubber brake hose fitting was buggered up so the line wrench didn’t hold , the hard line came right out without any issues as did all the rear lines . Love New Mexico trucks

New master on the 68 Golden . Everything is now new and she stops very well . I’m guessing the master cylinder the PO installed was the problem all along, stopped ok but the rears were not working correctly. I can now lock up all 4 in a panic stop . To shiny though for the truck

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

.

My Vintage Air 4 knob controller had its fan (off, lo, med, hi ) switch go loose last season...it would spin freely a quarter round before it "caught" and would click the switch. Well, just yesterday it let go completely and would just spin, not catch and actuate the 3 way switch.

Pulled it and found that each knob has a set screw. The fan knob's screw was backed all the way out! Easy fix and with a little loctite, it'll probably never happen again...

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Fixed the trans detent on the 68 golden steering column . I couldn’t get the shift lever to pull back and it really didn’t like to go into gear or into park . Took it all apart it’s amazing how 55 year old grease turns into concrete . Had to clean everything with PB Blaster and a wire brush . Lubed it put it back together and now it works like it should .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Replaced the 2 core radiator that was in the truck with a new 4 core from Summit. That plus a new thermostat & radiator cap, I should be running nice and cool now.

I love to see an honest white face on a '68 Chevy.
Too many guys get repainted and don't tell the shop about the design year trim feature -- contrasting color nose -- and just get the face body color, like a '67.
