Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

People build roof ladders to get onto the roof. At our place in the mountains, my dad used a ladder he made so he could clean the woodstove flu every year. My plan is to have snow birds to lay a board across and go from there.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

My plan is to go out in the garage and add an extention wire onto my hot wire that goes to the trailer brake system.. I then will install the new battery that has the neg /pos post the opposite of the one that is in the truck now . Then put this battery back that has been in the truck that is borrowed from my 39 ,..Reason is I want the positive and negitive battery wires tucked down nicely ..Other than that " Happy New Year Every One"

Happy New Year right back at ya Larry, and same to all the great board members here!

We didn't hear near as much fireworks as in the past. Maybe just because our hearing is getting worse....

I noticed the same Mike. The cows across the street made more noise than any fireworks in our areas. There's at least one over there that needs to be on my dinner plate.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Happy New Year Larry, Mike, Boog, and even the rest, too!!

'22, I'm through with you!

Probably people spent less on fireworks this year. My new neighbors popped some off. Nothing crazy. I heard them around the countryside for a little while, too.

What I did today was piddle around with moving things back into my barn. I got the other door hung on the front and replaced the glass panes that fell out (broke) while I was repairing the rot. I hate filling the building back up.

Note: I just started hearing fireworks (the big guns) in the distance and it just got dark. We had rain last evening, so I guess this is the town's rain date.

Now that it’s mud season it’s time to replenish the firewood stacks.

It was a metal roof I installed and had been able to walk on ok, but only a little before this happened. We had even talked about the special shoes made for this in a thread a couple days prior. I started walking up and my feet slipped out, started sliding, knew it was only about 6' to the ground with a walk board even closer. My feet glanced off the walk board and hit the ground. I would have been fine if I had room to collapse and roll, but the house foundation was so close I hit my head on the brick wall. It could have been a lot worse and I feel very lucky. Could have broken my neck. No concussion symptoms at all.
next time you go up there Tim, let me know and you can borrow my Cougar Paws...
don't feel bad, back in the '80's had one guy fall off a roof THREE times in one day! finally the boss made him go home before he dragged one of us down with him..

me and the boy did some work on his Firebird today. Installed a bunch of sound deadener in the back half of the car, his new Kicker speakers were rattling the heck out of it.
he got new headlight motors and led head lights for it as well. lights are waaay quieter going up and down now. before they real loudly clunked, now it's just a quiet whisper. never paid much attention to led lights before, but my wife got me led back up lights for my stepper and the crewcab for Christmas, and they blow the tractor lights i had on there outta the water.
we were only able to change the pass side, it has a normal H4 plug, just had to re-pin it, but the dr side has the goofy firebird slant prong plug, so we're waiting for an adapter plug so we don't need to splice or cut the factory wiring.
we also dis-abled the GOOFY canada firebird version only, auto headlights that come on when it's dark. biggest prob, drive thru a tunnel or under a bridge or some big shady trees and the stupid lights keep popping up and down. i think he liked that mod the best so far, now he can control the darn lights.
be interesting when it gets dark, with one new led and one old sealed beam, should be able to see what kind of difference it will be.

Making a push to get the engine compartment together enough to crank. I will put the inners in after I get the clutch adjusted. These camaros are so tight under the hood as it is. Should have most of my parts by end week.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I put some sorely needed new front tires on the Baja. Now I just need to get her in the garage and tear her apart, I don't care for working in the dirt. Get her ready for paint jail and a 12V rewire. New hood is on the way. The wind got the last one and smashed it to smithereens. Not a lot of progress, but some.

It's been tried. NFS. The old guy across the street had it in his field for 40 years. He wouldn't sell it and neither will I. My relatives can sell it when I'm dead and gone just like his did. $200 I don't think a person ever grabbed their wallet faster than I did.

Husky 350 . It’s the smallest saw I own other than a few shelf queen Homelites . My go to saws are the Stihl 460 magnum and my Dolmar 7910 . For real big stuff I use the Husky 395 xp it’s a monster at 94cc’s . The Dolmar is a modified competition saw but it cuts all day long . This Homie is one I bought a few years ago . Saw was never started and still hasn’t .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I bought a Husky 350 with a 20" bar some years back and it has been a great little saw, always starts & runs good. It's light weight, easy to use, and it's able to handle anything I've cut the last few years. Bad thing is that I haven't used my old Stihl 042 in a long time, and the gas went bad. I have fiddled with it but it's beyond my limited abilities. Since it's obsolete, OEM parts are not available -- and dealers refuse to even look at it. Too bad, although it's heavy, it was a real workhorse. If I can't find an independent shop I may just part it out. Don't really want to throw it away.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I have a Husqvarna I bought at an auction some years ago. It was less than 2 yrs old and looked like new but didn't want to run. I took it to a repair shop for a tune up and upon seeing it the guy asked if I'd like to make a fast $100 over what I gave for it before he did anything to it. I said no. So for $85 I bought the saw plus case and spare bar and chain. I paid $11 for the chain sharpen and they pulled the spark arrester out of it that was plugged up. Runs like brand new. I've used it very little. This Husqy dealer told me it was a very expensive saw when new. Off hand I don't remember what number it is but it has a 24" bar. That is one of the very few great deals I've ever ran across.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Front ujoints went on my Dodge . Replaced them a few years ago when I did the hubs . Bought greaseable ones thinking they would last . Nope actually went faster . This time I didn’t look at price and bought Spicer made in USA without the zerks . But it came apart real easy since I put anti-seize everywhere I could decided to do it outside was 50 for most people f the day . Just waiting on my new Tiger u joint removal tool my cheapo harbor freight one broke first try .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Looks like fun.

My plumbing started gasping air last week. This problem had me baffled. I had switched the pump off messing with it yesterday and lost prime. Now no water! All said and done, it was sucking air before the pump, but not enough to mess with pressure. Pulled the foot valve up and replaced just because, even though the line was full of water. Pump just wouldn't prime. Put air to the well line at the pump. Tiny hole in the plastic coupling at the well. Having water is nice

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I has a sads. You have a lot more floor space than I do. The neighbors across the street are linemen. They tease me quite a bit about having to walk sideways around my garage, but it's worse than that. If I want to use the drill press, I have to walk all the way around the garage and open the door to get to it. I have a solution, but my youngest brother is living in it (the dining area), and until he has enough money accumulated to move, the situation will remain the same.

It's nice to have a huge shop or garage with a place for everything. But the rest of us find ways to manage with less. I'm working on setting up my place now that my barn move project is done. It gives me a chance to rearrange things to work best for my present - future needs.

I made Maryland crab soup

Verified/proven, yes -- but verified/proven to be what? Verified/proven to crack -- just after the warranty expires? (assuming there is a warranty)

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

In regards to chain saws when my dad passed away many years ago I got his 245A Poulan chain saw. Has to be 30 plus years old.
Last early summer we had really high winds and tornado near us. We didn't have any damage but 1000's of trees down in the area. You couldn't find a chain saw locally or bar oil.
So I pulled out the Poulan and tried to get it running. No dice. It had great compression. So I pulled the carb. I got the number off the carb and off to the local small engine shop. $14 dollars later for a carb kit and some new gas line it was running. I was shocked. But the small engine carbs are super simple. New chain and it cuts like crazy.
