What did you do today not on your truck...

So lately I've been helping at a local body shop. Friend of mine.
So far 24 hours. Two days a week. Four hours per day. 10 AM-2 PM.
My shoulders and back can't take any more than that.
I am the king of block sanding!
The owner has a couple customer projects that were brought to him that just needed a bit of "fine tuning" prior to paint. Yeah right. I spent 4 hours yesterday block sanding on a after market tail gate. I will admit I'm not the best block sander in the world but my advice is buy the best part you can afford. You will be money ahead in the long run.

Found even NOS sheet metal needs a lot of work . Have to take into account during a production run say 68-72 millions of fenders were produced and if a die went out of spec it was replaced to facilitate ease of assembly. Now after the production run these same dies were used for years without replacement so tolerance’s and true flatness of the panel suffered.

I bought some dual rate springs for my RZR, over Christmas, and started installing them. The rears are done, now on to the fronts.

I learned something. I try to learn something every day but sometimes you learn a thing that is really something. I like learning about geology. It can be hard for me to grasp. I knew the Appalachians used to be high as the Himalayas. I just learned that the sediment that created Petrified Forest in AZ is Appalachian. There were rivers big as the Mississippi running off the west slope.

Got these at Lowes. Someone put em on the discount rack for a buck each. Had to double check in case it was a mistake. Usually close to 9 bucks a can. They were so cheap the store computer wouldnt let me use my employee discount. They had two cases, I grabbed the one full case and the last can left from the other. 13 cans, 13 bucks plus tax for all of em.

So far this is only the second great deal since I went back to work. My buddy texted me ... Let me know when they get a dented Weber bbq. I texted him back ... Baby steps haha.

Weird, I flipped the pic before I posted. Oh well, internet is draggy tonight dont feel like messing with it lol

I don't think I have. Are those all from the same company? Quite a wide variety. I once ordered samplers from Alabama Sunshine, after buying a couple kinds from a country store when in AL. I'd enjoy working my way through all those. My B-I-L likes hot sauce on his food. but when I tell my sister I plan to give him one I think he might like she tells me, "He only likes...", which confuses me. How can you know you only like one when you haven't tried the rest? There's the authentics and there are the others, either creations or those from other ethnic cuisines/regions. Variety is the hot sauce of life!

I couldn't find the pictures I took of that summer kitchen once completed. I showed some progress along the way, so I wanted to show how it ended up. I just found where the pictures went, so here are some

^ That was the pretense for the rebuilding, which added to the challenge. But I did mention at some point they should consider doing something to preserve, that this is simply an attractive phase of deterioration. so they do plan to paint. I suggested a solid stain for color or just a clear preservative. i had an ad out looking for aged German lap siding but got nothing. The new siding is white pine and that is my biggest concern being down low, especially. The silvered siding is all nice clear Douglas Fir. Such great exterior wood. They don't even offer that siding (around here) in yellow pine, only clear or with knots white pine. Clear has pin knots.

Pretty much . It's solid and strong. Before the tree fall it was right rotty in some places. So this was a blessing in disguise for them. Didn't cost a dime. and they'll still be getting a brick pizza over built outside and through the wall. The original chimney up through the roof from inside was built on the ceiling joists. Stovepipe ran up to that I guess. He said he wanted to do a pizza over so I suggested building outside with just the hearth inside. Got him a mason and made it all work within cost. I can't wait till Mocktoberfest . The guy's nickname is Mo and he has a big stay-over party first weekend in October... with a big emphasis on food! Well, adult beverages too. Next one, pizza!

I have a friend just like that! He can eat the hottest of the hot without breaking a sweat. I don't think that he has any taste buds left. He also walks around barefoot when it's freezing.

I like my sauces hot but they have to have flavor too. I've had some that were just hot and nothing else. Leave those at the door. Not interested.

Today I watched my road turn into a river. My insurance is high because I live in a flood zone and I guess they're not kidding. I should have kept my boat.

Oh and I bought another car. Can't help it. Keep me off of the internet. It's supposed to be delivered Saturday. The pimp daddy wheels and window tint may have to go but it has a new Z24 crate motor and a 700R4 transmission.

The Tiger u joint tool came today it worked but not without a little finessing. It wouldn’t give a straight line push like it wasn’t big enough the info says for Dodge 2500 & 3500 with 9.25 AAM . But I managed it worked much nicer than the 20 ton press . They make a larger unit so I’m going to call them tomorrow.

The Spicer joint was much larger than the cheap ones I put in before . The cups actually are flush with the outside of the yoke . The old ones they were recessed in the yoke.

One universal was beyond bad . Absolutely no needles left in one cap the other three caps were still greased . The other universal was like new but I changed it out anyway .

Ouch! Bought a 1970 LT-1 Corvette back in the early 80's to restore and the aft shaft universals out to the rear wheels were powdered rust. No maintenance there, and If I remember correctly they had no zerks to grease them.

Thanks. It's all an illusion . No, getting it back to standing up straight with straight walls between was the first step after demo. Actually the second step after jacking up to replace rotten (3") sills, then more accurately straightening and bracing. Square is another story, had to work with what was originally done. I got the roof end to end and top to bottom measurements all the same but still not square. I laid the roof out to lay square with the bottom edge and centered. A slight taper to the first and last panels but slight enough to not stand out, about 3/4"-1" top to bottom difference.

It's still a weathered old building but looks like it's ready to stand another 100 years. I can't wait to see how he fixes up the interior. The ceiling will be open to the roof planks, so all this work will show. I used all old unplaned recycled lumber in the same dimensions (got lucky with that), 3"w x 4"h approx. I needed about 14' end to end for the ceiling joists. I was a little short on a couple, so I made splices at the ends from the wall-out. Hidden from inside.

They are happy, which makes me happy. This is a farm that is in a small very old rural community of, I'd guess 20 or so houses, called Black Rock. The Black Rock church was built in 1738, so a very old community in what was then the frontier. This farm is so old the Mason-Dixon Line runs through the property. The 17 acres left of this farm he owns lays in two states! Kind of funny that he is a surveyor. His neighbor friend in this community liked the job done on the summer kitchen, too. I'm ordering up some windows to install in his place now.

Put my smoker together finally. I know it's not a wood smoker, it's a pellet smoker but it's sure a lot easier and I'm lazy.

Can't wait to try it out if it ever stops raining. Got a little break today but it's supposed to be back tomorrow.

Now I need to get a brisket and make brisket tacos. I used to go to a place that made them and they sure were good. They were very simple, just sliced brisket, BBQ sauce, and you could put their homemade salsa on them. It may sound like an odd combination but I ordered them every time I went there. And they were on a flour tortilla which I'm usually not a fan of with tacos. I'm going to try and duplicate them.

Then bring on the ribs and sausage baby! Winter can't last forever. Summer is on it's way.

They work nicely . But like with all smokers you need to time when to foil up your meat . Ummm that didn’t come out right but to much smoke isn’t good .

But the Dodge back together all in all it wasn’t as bad as I had made it out to be in my head .
