Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Bought an OEM replacement steering wheel I said I didn't need.
Put my engine into hibernation. Been saying I'd do that for 9 months. I didn't wanna, and discovered you can remove maybe 35% of the parts without it. I ran out of stuff to do. No excuses until this is torn down. I'm hoping that comes by early spring, right in time for 5 months of refinish. Tomorrow I remove the alternator, power steering and fan. Then reinstall the high horn to determine how I'll install the NOS coolant tank. Don't much care for the hose-line to the nipple bumping the horn harness "per instructions". It's real close anyway. I'll likely drill the "correct" holes into the core rail, then add a bracket "extension" for the mounting bracket. IMO it would look cleaner as well. There's a lot of space in that LH front corner. Kinder to the tank as well.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Ran new harness for power windows and finished converting the driver side regulator to accept the motor. Also mounted the switch. Then attempted to install the window and got it bound up and cracked it. Also painted my fuel psi regulator mounting bracket.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Guys i thought i,d share a fyi on small block chevy starters. If you want your old chevy truck to crank over like a race horse even on the hottest days and even with the heat off headers dont fool with stock 67-72 chevy truck starters. Get a starter off a 69-70 chevy corvette with a lt-1 small block there hi-torque starters. These are hi-compression engines. I have a 383 sbc with 10-1 compression and this oriellys life time guarantee starter #03-0367 really spins it over and its only $44.64. Plus you wont have that dreaded gear reduction whine. Hope this hhelps somebody out.
I followed this tip & it works great!!!! Thanks BCOWANWHEELS!!!!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Actually I've dons a lot today and the whole weekend.
This Labor Day weekend i finally got back to my '69 305E 2500. The truck has 41K+ on it with manual everything. Coming form Alabama it was one of the last pickups to have no emission controls. With all that in mind, it's incredibly simple and brings a whole new meaning to the term serpentine belt. I did the 4412 swap with the 1937 adapter when I got the truck the truck a few years ago. It never would idle right often not holding an idle as well as a hesitation beast on giving it the gas. I get frustrated over time. As time went on, I realized I had misread the instructions for installing the carb and tightened things to ft/lbs instead of in/lbs. A few moths ago I ordered new gaskets for the adapter and carb for when I could get to it, putting off fears I might have warped anything. Saturday, I put the new gaskets on and once the dry carb got gas, things improved over 1000%. Toning the idle down from what was probably 1000+ RPM, it held its idle much better at the specced 500 RPM.The truck idled for over a half an hour. In the driveway, I gave it the gas and it accelerated smoothly. I let i sit for a few hours and with a flick of the key it fired up. Same thing the next morning. So a lot of problems solved. It still had a slight miss, though, so today I timed it by by feel, turning the dizzy until things were much smoother and reset the idle speed. With all that in mind, I took it into town for a road test. No stalling and a decent idle, but going up a hill under load there was hesitation. so I got back home and looked into setting the idle mixture. Holley says to use the manifold vacuum for that- so there was one error I'd been making. I have been using the ported vacuum on the 4412 fer setting it up- Holley instructs to use that, but just for the vacuum advance. The advance was checked a while back and was OK. I came across threads which got me looking into using manifold vacuum for the advance. More to look at as time goes on. With my non-emissions 305E what I've come across on the net tells me I should be using manifold vacuum, not the emission controlled ported vacuum.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Came within an inch of pouring gas all over it and torching it... she was not my friend today. I rebuilt and converted the column from a column auto to a floor auto, and I just cant get the slop out of it... I know its been done by someone in here, and I would love to be able to find his thread to see what Im missing. On another note, some of the panels are heading to the paint shop tomorrow...

My first truck was a 6' bed. I like the look but never again if I want to use it. 8' fits a sheet of plywood and yes, clise the gate with a bike in it
