So far spent most of the morning tracking down a rattle in the drive train. No luck so I'll keep looking as I watch the race!

If someone would have told me it would 5 days to cut, dado, router, drill, mock up install, reinstall, reinstall then get my custom 68' short wood bed on the frame ( after lifting it off to drill the gas filler hole) i'd say they were crazy. not anymore..

Nice Sunday spent in the driveway.

New starter hooked up on my Dad's C-10.

Shocks, front and rear greased on my C-20.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Last night - cleaned out my buddy's garage (moved his jeep out, and equipment) got the C10 on the lift and took wheels off to start replacing brake cylinders, he's going to work on that this week while he is "slow" on other work, hopefully have the exhaust put in this week!

Got my insurance on it this morning and getting ready to head to DMV to get tags - woohoo!

here's some pics of the original bed and tailgate, then the replacement I found for $200!

I didn't realize it had an original wood bed - the plate steel has always been in it as long as I can remember, when we lifted it up to do the brakes, some of the wood fell down, it's almost like one of those house shows where they pull the carpet up and "hey you have wood floors!" - only problem here is that I can't simply remove the covering and be done! My friend said something to me a few weeks ago about how my grandpa put that in, because there was some ply-wood under the steel that was rotted, upon closer inspection last night we realized it wasn't plywood but the original wood floor.

working on an Electric Vacuum Pump install on mine for a solution to the low vacuum due to my "Lumpy" cam.......tested it at work and got 25" of Vacuum...it's off a 2003 Audi A4, some Volkswagen cars had them too....cost me $26.00 at Pick n Pull.

Yea it's pretty loud. I'm gonna make some baffles to slip inside. I drove it around for quite awhile with a very similar setup back when I first got it running.

Thanks guys it was my first bed job. worked out pretty well using off the shelf composite decking material. spacing is bigger between boards but the strips lined up factory once I used the larger center board in place of the factory style skinny center boards. I eliminated the offset top washers and am using allen-button head SS bolts instead.

Got the grill guard installed--bought it from a fellow member here. Okay, I drilled two holes--have left the outboard ones for now.... Thanks Al, great meeting you and thanks for your patience! Dave

Glad you put one on. I have hit two animals in the last couple of years (both with my Honda Accord) and I took damage each time.

With the '72's plastic grill, I have decided to sport a grill guard once she's mobile.

I just really dug the look of the early guards. It's probably the only thing non-original on the truck at this point but it was worth a couple of extra holes in the bumper!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

What did I did to my truck today? Well its like what have I been doing all week. Did some under hood detailing and it was easy with the hood off. Installed my LED plug and play tail lights I bought from Wes at Classic Heartbeat last summer. Realized while poking under the hood my A/C clutch needs replacing
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=706266 Changed my upper tailgate mouldings myself and learned they only go on one way, yes there is a top and bottom to them. I knew the left front fender on the truck had been damaged and discovered it was replaced with used one, but I don't think one from a 72. I'll stop now , but let me say its been a great week and I learned some things about my truck and that I can do things I thought I couldn't.
