Yes that is the shape it was in when it came into my hands Mark. Say on a side point what do they charge for addmission to the Goodguys car show? Just want to be prepaired...Vernski

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

General walk-in admission is $15 a head, which is how I'll probably attend in the future. Compared to the NSRA, Goodguys charges big money and gives very little back to the participants. Unfortunately NSRA pulled out of the area many years ago so this is the only nationally coordinated local event. In spite of my political opinions of the Goodguys organization, we always have a good time.

Here's a link showing the particulars of the event. Hope to see you there:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

WOW, I had asked about a paint scheme a while ago, as I wanted to go two tone, but, wanted the dividing line at the center of the hood line, horizontally. that idea evoved to the upper body line, just below the windows.

Seeing HotRodYJ's paint above, that IS the dividing line I will use, as it evolved in the paint post, but, mine will be either Ferrari red on the bottom, medium silver on the top, of, gunmetal gray on the bottom, light silver.

HotRodYJ, that is a nice paint scheme of yours, it's gonna look dynamite great.

Nothing real special. 4 bolt main 350, flat tops, Performer RPM cam and 3 deuces. A little bling, serpentine set-up with York for the OBA system.

That's how the rich get richer!

As for updates, with the help of my squeeze we got the forward cab mounts painted and Armoral'd the upholstery. About all that's left is giving the truck a bath and we'll be all set for the weekend.

Also took a couple of photos of the recently updated dash:

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I started tearing my truck apart today after work to get it ready for the suburban front crossmember/ v8 swap.

Here's the build thread I just started:

Penetrating oil, a magnetic dish and a 9/16 socket. That sums up the tear down process perfectly.
Oh, can't forget the broom.

Thats pretty much all I have needed so far! And the tape to mark the wiring so I dont forget haha. I do paint and body work. I am no mechanic and its pretty intimidating to me, so I take no chances on screwing up and forgetting something!

Your interior is so damn nice. I only hope mine looks half that good when it's all said and done. Nice work.

<edit> I made a list of things I still need to finish the interior upholstery, stereo, and a few things I need for the engine. Hope to make some progress this weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Nice improvements. I like the chrome bumpers with guards, and the mirrors are certainly more attractive. Those wheel covers are probably worth a fortune to an Advance Design restorer. On further reflection, I think they're actually original accessory wheel covers for a 48 Chevy passenger car. I've just seen these on Advance Design trucks quite a few times. Very rare indeed. The skirts look cool too.

Also, plastic bags and toe tags. Trust me on this. You need to put all the bolts and such in plastic ziplocks with information written on the toe tag card so 'years' later (seems like that sometimes- true for me) you can remember what the bolts are for and where they are suppose to go.

On my ride I took it apart in 2000 & 2001, took three years to reassemble and then had to do it all again. IF it were not for these little tags I'd never remember what the various sized bolts, screws and piece/parts went to anymore. The assembly manual does help a lot, but not on the size bolts you need.

However, the neat thing about our trucks is that I think there are only about 6 different sized bolt either grade 5 or grade 8 in the whole get up. AND nothing METRIC! - TAKE THAT COMMUNIST PLOTTERS

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Well, this wasn't today. It was like 2.5 weeks ago - because we had to help the family move 10hrs away. (San Diego to the Bay Area)

Anywho; Waterpump & fuel pump, with an oil change.. now it leaks.. easy fix tho. Also found out that it is suprisingly almost all-original. Factory suspension, etc.. except for maybe the air-shocks, we dunno. But that's what the guys @ the shop said.

Also found out why the rear end is so loose. It's got empty air-shocks. We didn't even know it had those until we finally got it on a lift. Now the question is to restore the air-shocks (adjustable by any tire-pump) or replace with heavy-duty standard-shocks? I guess I'll have to make a post.
