Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

Guy down the street doing renovations on his summer place . I stopped a few days ago he asked me a few questions and told him he needed to put up some temporary walls and brace from wall to wall since he took out the header on the front wall . He didn’t listen you can see where the roof was by the flashing on the chimney. Guess it’s a demo now

Good thing it collapsed while he wasn't(?) in it.

He was a Studebaker specialty shop? That would have been a cool place to visit

He must have taken out more than just a header. The principle of the triangle is so simple, yet so many don't get it. Also span, deflection, compression, level, plumb, and gravity

I’m thinking the header was more of a rim joist holding the outer side walls . He removed the front one the rear wall of the house is still there and fairly Level.

Stopped yesterday the owner was there along with the building inspector. The owner cut the top plate and took out all the interior walls at the same time . I pretty sure the inspector is going to make him demolish the whole structure which is a problem here as it’s in the NYC watershed so they become involve in the whole process .

I know you love history Tim, but you can't save them all.
Well, that was one to save if any are. Totally significant piece of local history. The former town and road connecting America's first public road, the National Road of George Washington's conception, and Liberty Road, joining Baltimore and Frederick since the 1700s, are named after this property. It was pre-Revolutionary War. And my point is it could have been sold to a dismantler for all it's one off millwork, virgin lumber, and hand hewn logs and timbers. It was a gold mine of early American salvage materials worth as much as or more than what it's costing them to demo. So it's costing them double, or rather, taking out of pocket when they could have being filling it.

Absolutely. I wish my friends had put it in a historical trust. Jeff was born rich and daddy gave him the place. So he's built different from me. He pisses me off. Holly was sweet and the real reason we hung out as two couples.

I wouldn't want to be in that guy's shoes. But I never would be. He's a fool and now it's making his life hard. I'm sure it's a knock down now. Already on it's way. Time to finish the job. He would have been better off paying all the money for a contractor instead of trying to save money doing it by himself. He's paying now, that's for sure.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

i've know about this car for 30 or more years, sitting by an old garage at what once a junkyard.there's still lots of old cars in the woods,in fact i got a couple of trim pieces years ago for my 67 Impala wagon.this is enough to make a grown man cry.people tried for ever to buy it but never able to.it's a 1967 Pontiac Beaumont SD ragtop.396,Turbo 400 and a 12 bolt.buckets and console.the rear bumper is under ground now and so is the bottom of the 396.what a waste.Beaumonts are Canadian Pontiacs,Chevrolet powertrains and were sold at Pontiac dealers in Canada, never in the U.S.highly sought after here and not alot left.this one is going nowhere in a hurry.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

It's a mess for sure. I just went by my ex-wife's and my friends' place Wednesday. They were the only other couple we knew and hung out with since we moved here 37 years ago, had similar interested. Jeff and Holly lived in a historic old home of local significance. The road was named after the little crossroad where the builders of this house had the Woodville Store. The main original part was log with many additions over the 200+ years it stood. Jeff had a '67 Firebird Convertible and we had a '63 Riviera. We'd go over there for the evening, they've come over to our place, or we'd go out together. They came to our family Christmas gathering, our kids' graduations, and were the God parents to my younger son. This place had a two story log (stone lower) springhouse that supplied their water, the firebird sat in the carriage house, log smokehouse, other sheds with standing seam roofs, and the two story frame store building Jeff used for his woodshop.

Well, first my wife left and kept the gossip going with Holly. So, I wasn't about to go visit just to be dispelling all the BS, so I stopped seeing them. A few years ago they sold the place and moved to Florida...whatever. The place sat there unchanged all this time. I guess it had been since last summer or winter that I had driven past there. On Wed I decided to go see if the new owners had started anything on the place. Let me tell you I was in shock, totally saddened at the ignorance. These people tore everything down! Probably to throw up some white vinyl board & batten with black dentist window "modern country **** box, same as about all you see going up these days. The 60s/70s chicken coupe contemporaries momentary trend of the post covid '20s era. It's not like they are in a hurry. They're wasting money on demo, hauling, and disposal when they could have sold the salvage rights and had the place left clean as part of that. I guess you can't buy smart when you have more money than sense

That's insane. Makes me sad. It could have been sold for 10 cents and made more sense. All this wasted good stuff we're showing.

Here is a log garage I'll be saving. It was built by a smart person from reclaimed hand hewn logs 30 years ago. A couple logs are rotted on the other side and I'm going to replace them

One of these are what I have always wanted. I mean always, like back when I could afford one. My main interest in cars stops at '67 and the Chevelles were my favorite '67. Only thing better would be a Beaumont, for being different

very nice cars but for me,i always preferred the 66 Chevelle's and Beaumonts to a 67,never ever had a 66 or 67?lots of nice cars but never a Chevelle?i did go,a long time ago,to see a 67 fullsize Pontiac conv advertized with a 427.i thought it's a long shot but in Canada, they did exist so off we went to Kingston,Nova Scotia,a couple hours away,in winter to see this Pontiac.i had to shovel about 8 tons of snow off the car to get to it and the hood open.when i did get there,it was a 427 but a dump truck motor from a C-60 Chevy dump truck.a wasted trip but you gotta go look?i never did take any numbers down from the car or know at that time what they should have been but i always wondered if the guy was trying to pull a fast one or really didn't know?i'd like to think he didn't know?

Many guys probably thought back then a 427 was a 427. The internet has educated car guys much better these days.

I took this picture a few weeks ago. Truckload of green beans heading to Hanover Foods for canning. Actually, they sell frozen vegetables, too

My better half planted these crazy looking beans this spring and this is the last of them. Great tasting! After they're cooked the purple is gone and they look just like pasta.

Which messes with my simple mind, as my mind thinks I'm eating pasta but, it tastes like beans.
