I have done this with my Tempest; itemized by part, date, cost, and odometer reading.
I have also started this with the truck, though odo reading will be moot at this time since I have rolled it back. (though in the future I will add to that column)

I dont wish to be nosy, frankly I can imagine what you have into it so far (not counting $$ for the labor of course) I was just wondering if you were calculating it as you went?

I started a log and stopped adding a couple years ago. Everything goes into the file now. Someday I might add it up. I was just over 10K a couple years ago. I don't think I have as much as a new truck in it. Even if I did it's a one of a kind. I wish I had kept up with the labor..........I think.

I have a pic of the folder below. Your guess is as good as mine.................well, maybe not. A million is a little high.

Cleaned up the rest of the wires that was behind the tank that I couldn't get to before. I just used some split loom and brought the fuel sender wire out of it. Made a QD for the sender as well to facilitate future removal if needed. Then just tucked into the loom.

For those that don't know, when you run power steering the left front bumper bracket has to be modified. I have to repaint now.

I really love all the pics you take, they help immensely when I am try to figure out how I am going to tackle a part or mod.

hey alan, just a quick question about sanding clearcoat. can you block the clear or do you just need to use your hand, i was told if you used a block it would leave drag marks.

The funny thing is that I read that the bracket has to be modified a few years ago, but I was painting several black pieces at once and grabbed them just because. Then I remembered.

I wish I was this detailed about taking pics when i first started. If you look back the tear down didn't have many pics. The camera is like my cell phone, I don't leave home without it. I know my pnone has a camera, but no flash.

They are right if your not carefull that can happen. I've blocked single stage and clear coat with a block to flatten it out. I generally sand with 800 if I'm reclearing. Buffing is another story. My .02 is you can't get it flat with your hand. Get a few more opinions to be sure.

Here's another problem I think I mentioned before that needs to be fixed. The right rail on the front of my truck looked like it was OK when I removed the original bumper. Well my test bumper will not bolt up. I can get the bottom bolt in, but not the top. There is a bump in the bottom of the rail that is bringing the bumper down. I will bring my porto- power home and see if I can make it better. I'm not using this bumper since I'm going chrome. Once done I can weld the crack that I missed and paint the front section of the rail again.

Hey Alan, I had that same crack in mine on the right side bottom I welded but it up, I just hope that I don't have those problems when I got back together with mine Thanks for pointing this one out.

Hey alan guess what I found this weekend.. 86 chevy 1/2 ton 48000 yes that is correct four eight thousand miles... been garaged since day one. looks like brand new.. Price well that is a different story.. some where around Get ready.. $2000.

going to sell the 57 and start a new project..hope you guys won't band me from the site.. since my truck will be newer then a 79v8 auto power sterring deluxe cab..

No way, you need to keep the 57 also. 2K is a great find for that low milage 86.

Alan, is the bumper fit close enough that you can slot the holes?? My first thought as they will be covered with the bumper installed.

I could, but want to try and repair it first.

Got a few things marked off the list. The main thing is I got all the grounds made a installed. The cab, engine, and bed are grounded to the frame. I didn't scrape the paint around the holes. I used lock washers to bite into the metal. It might be an issue later with corrosion. If so I'll use plan B. I used a ohm meter and all points had .5 ohms. i say it is good for now.

Thanks, i really like it. My neighbor gave me the drop pieces off a job. He said he they get it from Midwest Flexible or Unisource. I did s quick search of "stainless steel braided sleeving" and came up with this http://www.sparepartsnmore.com/perfo...feet-long.html. i don't think it could get any cheaper. It is for 3/8", but with a little searching I'm sure you could find 1/2"

Add another $300 for parts ordered tonight.

Something else I started today. I didn't like the way the wires were coming thru the floor. It needed a grommet for protection. I found this rubber piece on a used door at work and thought it would come in handy. I cut one end off and split it. I should have installed it prior to running wires. It's not finished yet since I 've got more wires to run. Once the wiring is finished I'll use plastic split loom to cover the rest of the wires.

Still chipping away at the small stuff. Mounted the relays for the AC and also hooked up the main feed to the circuit breaker for the AC. Baby steps, but they all have to be done.

My ends almost look professional. Some of the wires with the Vintage Air already come assymbled. They are tinny wires and didn't really want cut into them. I only had about 12" extra I looped and tied off. Still not done wiring the AC, but making progress.

We got a new toy at work. I wish we had it when I was doing the metal work on my cab. I can almost duplicate a factory spot weld. Don't rush out and buy one. They are pricey and this one requires 3 phase power. ;(

Had a pretty bad set back today as far as the truck goes. Remeber my hood? Well, it's not in as good of condition as before. This company blasted my last hood and did a great job. So I trusted that it would repeat.

I had all the paint sanded off the top except around the turn signals. I removed the hood bows and reinstalled the bows by a few threads. I told the guy that I did so and for him to remove them prior to sand blasting. After seeing what happens to a 67 hood when sand blasted incorrectly, I didn't want mine that way. The guy commented on how clean it was and it wouldn't take much to do the job. He also said he had never seen one without any rust. I told him it was from California.

To make a long story short, he didn't remove the bows and now I have 2 nice ridges running down my hood where the bows were. I called the lady that owns the place to give her a heads up. She didn't get defensive, but the guy that blasted it wasn't there. I told her I would prime it and see how it really looks. Then I would call her back. I also told her that these are not reproduced and this one was from California.

It just pisses me off that I did everything in my power to inform the guy, and this happens. In hind sight I should have kept the bows and blasted them in my cabinet like I did today. I sprayed some DP90 epoxy primer on it hopeing to get a good reflection. It was hard to get the right light for the camera.

The wife suggested that they reblast it without the bows and maybe the metal will go back into shape. It sounds plausable.

In the last pic you can see the ridges about 12' from the center rib.

I don't know what to tell these people that blasted it. I hate to complain, but due to the circumstances of what I went thru to get a nice hood..........I speeceless. What do y'all suggest I do?

That really sucks Alan, sorry to hear this. I agree with the wife. With your rep in the area they should make it right. As much work and sweat as you got into this don't settle.
