Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I dumped a load of compost and manure at a friend's house, and diagnosed a leak from my cowl vent to a split hose under the dash:

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Thanks, I was really surprised there were some cars I thought were much nicer.
My excitement quickly went away yesterday when I decided to take a lunch run in the truck and noticed a pool of fluid. After hours of messing with my brake proportioning vale I finally found that my brake light pressure switch was leaking around the top. The worst part was trying to get help at an auto parts store. I had to look it up on my phone and show him the part number. Still wanted to know what year, make and model. 1963 Buick Skylark, Advanced Auto part # S199 for anyone else that has a similar switch.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I worked at a parts counter for a year once, the thing I learned about things like this is simply tell them the make model and year of the PART you are looking for.
I personally liked to hear what it was in and all that but to look up the part (without a number) you simply need the make model and year of the PART. Many people at the counter don't have the love of all the goofy stuff as I do so they get confused with the stories and it's best just to "tell them what they need to hear." Brian

Yep, it’s one of the unfortunate side effects of computers. Anyone can look up parts who can type in a year make and model but sometimes you need somebody who knows cars.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I went to buy some 1/4 inch fuel line for my lawn mower at an Advance Auto parts store. The girl employee said We don't have lawn mower parts here. Unfortunately my NAPA store is becoming as bad.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I didn't get mad at the girl as it was a little comical to me. The cabinet with different spools of hoses that you pull out the length that you want was right behind her. She thanked me for pointing it out. I don't get mad at a clerk at a store that I will probably need to go back to. Actually, at my age, 78, I try not to get mad at anything any more.

...but it really is a rarity these days to find someone behind the counter that has lived the dream of building cars...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Instead of going to the car show at the Blacksmith on Labor Day I went for a cruise and ended up at an old feed mill that I often pass in my travels. They were closed for the holiday so I was able to take some pictures with a rustic backdrop. This was my favorite shot of the day..

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I am shooting four coats of clear today on the final parts needing paint (except for the parts I forgot about). Here's the production from earlier in the week, picking up UVs to help the cure. 100 hours of scuff & buff and I'm another day closer to being done!

I figured I better get the front stabilizer bar on the beast, so I got it wire brushed, primed and painted before the rain starts today.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
so today I restart on my brakes. trying to add a power booster & 2 chamber m/c to my drum brakes. still haven't figured out why I have no pressure to the rear brakes when the engine is started but do have pressure when the engine is off. wish me luck.
