If pennies fall out of heaven, by some miracle, before the end of the build I plan to replace it. Radiators.com wanted 200.00, and that just ain't happening rite now...

I like your other saying better, " Fixing rust is like peeling an onion, ya just keep taking layers away till you hit the good stuff"

Re: PO has me PO'd
Got a little done, hung battery box, put dum dum in the vertical seam because it looked like a prime candidate to hold acid and water. More thinking planning on the '67 grille. I know I'm going to get flamed for cutting a rust free orig. grille [oops, surface rust only, saw it in the pic.], but the part is out there in repro. That's my story, and I'm sticking toit

Way to go.
You got a lot more done than me this weekend. I didn't even unlock the shop today, yet. Looks good.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Next step to installing '67 chevy grille in the Jimmy. Hood latch assembly all bolted up as should be, just have to drill one hole in the bottom of the chevy grille that isn't there, so I don't see any problems there. I'm waiting for the headlite buckets and bezel to get shipped in (thanks billsbowtie) to see if there are any problems, but I don't think so... Here's what it looks like so far
first step was to cut off the top and bracket of the chevy grille, I used my electric nibblers since I can control them better, this edge shows so I wanted it strait

Re: PO has me PO'd
Then it was time to cut off the top of the GMC grille since I needed a flange to weld the chevy grille to, I used my cutoff wheel so I wouldn't destroy the small flange that I needed Then it was just a matter of bolting the flange to the stock location on the upper grille surround of the GMC pc. After fitting I realized I had to move the flange back 3/4", so I had to drille new holes at that location. Vise grips and clecos are what's holding it in now till weld

Re: PO has me PO'd
I needed the strap clamp to pull the chevy grille closer to the fender

Re: PO has me PO'd
I am officially in the ranks of the two headlite club, sorry to leave all my friends at GMC behind, but it was fun while it lasted. All good things must someday end
Here's pics.

Looks good, you should be in paint by next weekend...right?
OK, we'll give you a little more time. Starting to look like a completed Jimmy!

Re: PO has me PO'd
Na, it was on top of the parts pile and kinda shiny, I might use it to hide my headlite relays. I have to investigate the one wire system for my altinator, not sure how to do it yet!
Thanks Stinker, the parts just fell in my lap, so I had to try it

Thanks again for the parts, they look better on my truck then sitting in a corner of your shop...J. I can't believe it costs 12,000.00 to make a tool for that one headlite bucket. Is that stamping made here or overseas?

Re: PO has me PO'd
Okay, it's been two weeks since the last update...what's new?
Guys, I saw this build last week and it looks better in person! That front grill set up is going to be one of a kind! Looking forward to seeing it completed. Nice work Jim. |

Re: PO has me PO'd
First off, before I get into my build update, I would like to acknowledge a couple people for free parts, good deals, and just a general all around help with keeping my head on strait. Not listed in order of importance, and if I left someone out, my apoligees(I don't feel like looking up proper spelling), one of those little icons up there is for spelling, but don't know which one

Re: PO has me PO'd
A little elbow grease, and rubbing compound shined up the anodized alum. after the pic was taken... So, does a '67 Chevy grille fit into a '72 GMC Jimmy? Yes, with a minimum amount of work! This was on my porch, after Kurt left. Cool, huh? Kurt thought this would be a good pic. from my computer
