Re: My 86 build

Back on posts #339 & #340, I showed some Before & After pics of some CarmineRed Seatbelts I restored for a friend. He sent me some pics today after he got them installed. All that’s left are his Door Panels.

Re: My 86 build

I think I might need to start another thread just for the seatbelts. Still nothing new with Big Red. So this past week, I’ve been working on another set of 79-80
Carmine Red seatbelts. They were REALLY dirty! I got most of the stains out, but there are a few that are visible, if your looking for them. Also got the belts retracting freely again. A lot of fading on the webbing also.
So here are the belts when they were still in the truck:

Re: My 86 build

Just after a good cleaning and some prepping, before the dying process. These are also getting new garnishes, for the upper pillar anchor bolts. That’s why they are black at the moment.

Re: My 86 build

Still nothing to report on Big Red. I’ve been pretty busy with seat orders and restoring seatbelts. Here is another set I just restored for someone. These are 1987 Charcoal.

Re: My 86 build

Finally got a free day and some help from a friend, to get the door back on Big Red. Got the door adjusted, and also adjusted the door strikers. WOW, what a difference! No more slamming the door 3-5 times before getting it to shut.
One thing I did just notice. My old hinges were still laying there on the floor, the drivers top hinge S Hook was upside down! I forgot to get a pic before I tossed them. I looked at some older pics. Here is the hinge when it was still on the truck. But you can barely see the S hooks rounded section is at the bottom, it should be at the top. The more flat part of the S hook should be at the bottom. The 3rd pic shows the new hinge, and the CORRECT way the S hook should be.
No wonder that door had issues! Glad I opted to changed out all the hinges, instead of just the pins & bushings.

I did get the dash parts put back on. The bezel and left side air vent needed to be removed to access one of the bolts, on the top hinge, from the inside of the cab.

Re: My 86 build

Are you back up to speed with activity and energy after your down time? It looks like you're plenty busy. I imagine you also need to take all precautions against this new bug. Hopefully all is well.

I am definitely getting there, about 80%. And yes, I definitely have a lot keeping me busy.
My doctor told me I needed to be extra careful. I guess I’m highly immune compromised and could get pneumonia fairly easy. And this was just weeks before the virus hit. So yes, I really have to be careful, at least that’s what doctor keeps telling me. Other than that, I’m doing good.

Re: My 86 build

Swapped out some OEM vents on the lower door carpets, with the aftermarket vents. The carpet color is the same, it’s just the lighting. They are more the color of the top photo.

Re: My 86 build

Finally!! Got the Drivers Door panel installed. I got these new door panels from USA1 Industries last summer, but one thing turned into another. Ended up putting new door hinges on, new strikers and got the doors adjusted. Wow, do they ever close so much nicer! Waiting on installing the passenger door panel, until I get the seat built and installed.
Here’s a video showing how easy the doors close now

Re: My 86 build

A little more work today. These lighted Bowtie Door Sills have been on the truck since I bought it. But it was time to go for the OEM look, so I swapped them out.

Re: My 86 build

Got another set of seatbelts restored for someone. These are 81-87 Blue. The plastic sleeves were removed, they were pretty busted up. Also, new anchor caps were used.

Re: My 86 build

Well the time is finally here for me to get my own seat restored. I got the cover, a Rear Seat frame and foam from a Crew Cab. This seat was probably rarely sat on. And today, I got a NEW/NOS Seat Back foam! I didn’t think these even existed. Time to get started.

Re: My 86 build

Glad to see you are giving your own truck some love. Step back and give it some thought. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Edit: I typed my response before the pictures showed up. I see that you got the seat in. Looks and matches great!

Thanks Rick! I guess it’s fitting, that’s its Labor Day weekend, and I’m finally laboring on my own truck.
I went to post the update yesterday and every now and then, my iPad says there are no photos, which isn’t the case. So I have to jump over to the phone, so I can add pics. I assume that’s what you were referring too. Just have a few things to tidy up and she’s ready to get out and stretch her legs (tires)!

Re: My 86 build

So one of the last items to put back in the truck, since I got the bench seat done, was the console. I also had this little console emblem that I got from someone in the parts section. It was the emblem that goes on the center consoles for the trucks that have bucket seats.
So I decided to add it to my console.
