Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
CC69Rat- Your project is moving along nicely. I wanted to comment on a couple of items you mentioned. Regarding your concerns about buying CPP brakes, I would suggest purchasing them from a Forum Vendor. DO NOT buy from CPP on eBay as that is where most of the service issues stem from. There have been very few complaints on CPP products, but many on their customer service. If you buy from a stocking dealer those issues go away.
If you want rear discs and prefer them to match the front, McGaughys is the best bang for the buck. You can upgrade to 13" front and rear for about 1k less than any other brand. If you need to multi-quote, click on the button for each post you want to quote. Once you have selected all of them then hit the button and it will multi-quote.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Does McGaughys offer a whole conversion 'kit' for my 70? Big brakes, similar to the CPP kit I posted? Anyone have a part number? For $1k less, absolutely I'll look at it.
I was talking to Summit Racing about it. .. the CPP kit (for the shipping advantages) and was planning to pull the trigger today at lunch. But, I'm sure they could get the McGaughys kit too. The main thing is I just need the year appropriate center link stuff and / or sleeves to make it work on the 70 setup. My truck is power drum 6 lug now.

NM .. found it.
You guys ROCK. How about the McGaughys big brake kit on the front and rear, Hotchkis drop springs and Bilstiens from ECE? with the sways too, that should REALLY plant the ole GMC .. and prepare for the next update .. LS anyone?

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Ok. Desicion made.
McGaughys Big Brake kits. Both front and rear. Hotchkis springs.. now my question is the master cylinder and proportioning valve. I have a CPP booster I bought for my Big Block truck. It is too big. (OE style) I thought I would use it on my GMC (smallblock, short valve covers, etc.) Make sense. . My question - Do I need a specific Disc / Disc master cylinder? I know the prop valve is disc/disc .. and what size lines would I need from the MC to the valve? I might just buy the kit with the smaller booster style and kinda swap boosters from the new kit to my BB truck .. would that work? that gives me a smaller booster to fit around the taller valve covers. thoughts? I'm going to order it tonight. The McGaughys kit is cheaper and that's what's on my 68 too. It went on great. I'm going this route. I can do big brakes front and rear for the same money I could do just the front from CPP.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
sounds like a solid plan and going to look great! The master just needs to be a disc style...as far as I know there's no difference between a disc/drum and a disc/disc master....just the prop valve as you mentioned...

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Dad's at it again .. Column has been painted to match the glove box door. The door panels are off now, but that will change soon. All the wiring issues corrected, new headlight switch, etc. He's cleaning up the rear view mirror now. I'm leaving for FL tomorrow so I'm sure there will be more to post when I get back. I like it when my trucks are at Pop's place !

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I talked to dad on Sunday and he said he had the dash all cleaned up and waxed, the new bezel is in, he is just cleaning and detailing as he goes.
I am in Florida for the next week or so (be back Mon) and I am going to order all my drop stuff. I just have a hard time making big purchases but I really think the Mcgaughys setup would be ideal for this truck. I have a really clean set of 5 lug rallys I can run until I get some wheels. Im trying to buy some Intro Pentias off of 'Original 71' Blue and white Cheyenne. May work out, may not.. well see. Ill post some pictures of the dash asap. Hes fixing a canceling cam issue today I think and putting my steering wheel back on. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
It's amazing how projects and ideas change from page 1 to last page.. LOL.. I was looking at turning mine into a road course racer until I read your first few posts. After reading about (and seeing) how cool these trucks look bone stock, I was seriously looking at an original resto...Now, I agree with 67Cheby, this dang site has given me so many cool and different directions to take my truck... Who knows where mine will be by my "last page".. LOL !! Nice build, can't wait to see more !!

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Here's a picture of the dash, Dad has it all put back together .. I think it looks awesome
The metal plate on the floor on the pass side looks like it is covering rust, but we looked under it, around it, on the bottom of the floor pans, etc. There is no rust through or even surface rust on the top to speak of. It is 42 yr old original floor pans so nothing more than the normal crud that builds up over time .. Honestly I thought about taking it off. I'm not even sure why it's there. Maybe the floor pans were getting hot or something? When I got it, the truck didn't have any carpet in it at all .. but I have a new molded black set that will go in on Monday. New sill plates, etc .. I think I'm just going to leave that plate on it and Dynamat / Carpet and just go with it. That plate has been there a looong time .. not sure why ?? Bizarre yes, but not a big deal to me.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Like the black dash pad? The 'gold' color was pretty much impossible to find. I just went with black.
Sticking with the original gold door panels, seat cover, headliner, etc. I looked back through some of the earlier posts and man it really looks better! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Thanks man.. Ill post pics of the carpet once we get it in. I will likey go with 'Sandalwood' for the door panels and seat cover. Classic Industries carries both in that color. While not listed as the GMC gold color. Its the closest thing I have found so far. At that point the int is probably going to be considered done. The wood bed is really close to ready to be installed, and the drop and brakes will be here soon.
