Like I said, its nothing but a palm sander bolted to a paint can (or in my case, an old bondo can). It works way better than the expensive tumbler I have, and cost about 15 bucks to make. My best results come from using a shallow layer of fresh sandblasting sand for a half hour, after which I change the sand and give it another half hour. Here’s what an hour of hillbilly tumbling gets me (these bolts were a rusty, cruddy mess when I started):







I no longer bother with the tumbler.

I weldered up the corners of the grill base where I chopped and rolled it to give it some strengthtacity

I caught a second wind and was dying to shoot this SEM undercoating, so I did

was hoping to do both fenders but I only mysteriously had half a can

note the spare nozzle and straw

I'm not a smart man but I know one thing about undercoating, it is really really good at sticking to stuff you don't want it to stick to, hence the plastic even on this old patina beater of a fender

really hard to see the finished product, I am not impressed, it don't look as good as when the shop did the floor on my '68 Mustang, I think I'm gonna give a fresh new can a try on the other fender

Parts look good. The undercoat covered, from the pic I can't see the issue.

I picked up some HF undercoating/bedliner to do the underside. It sprays with the cheap HF gun. Will give a report if I ever get that far.

Thanks for asking Rober yes it is recovering and feeling better, I see from your build thread and the "Robo Boot" that you are no stranger to injuries.

Yes please do, I think I am giving up on aerosol undercoating and will stick to roll em on types.

Thanks mate, it definitely takes more time to stop and take some pictures, but if you are on the fence about doing a build thread or not, I say do it, and here are three reasons why:

1. Committing myself to do a build thread motivates me to keep going as I feel I have an audience or a responsibility and I don't want to let people down, now I know a handful of guys may see my thread I get it, but it's just that it makes it more real I think.

2. You have no idea how many times I have referred back to my own thread Restoring Rusty when I fixed up my 1974 square body, ha ha. The more pictures you take and post the better.

3. It makes you feel like you are giving something back to the forum and the guys that have helped you out. Granted sometimes it may be what not to do, ha ha!

decided to warm up by cleaning up some space to think

then with one hole on one side plugged up it was time to work on the other side

since I couldn't measure a ruler with a yard stick, I use the press a piece of
cardboard with your dirty thumb method to git the shape you want

we cover the back side of the patch metal with some Expensive Primer and glue it in

I tell you what, if somebody takes this truck, they are taking this patch panel with it, ha ha

so we covered it with some cheaper primer and called it good enough for the girls we run with

next we finally started to make things black, cause chrome won't get you home but black will get you back

since we first had to paint the inner fender (not shown) we ranned out of paint and had to move on to something else

so in the spirit of social distancing I decided to buy my angle iron for the bed sides on the line

I could only get 72" long pieces so I bought a third 36" piece to cut up and make extensions to make them run the full length of the bed aka 78", and as you can see in one of these pics AMAZON was kind enough to put a complementary bend in one of the sticks in for me for free (it was way more twisted up than that pic shows, I spent an hour on it with a shop press and an avil and a 3lb sledge to beat it back into submission)

Wait this fool has a media blasting cabinet? Why don't he just use that instead of wire wheelin' all the small bits? well he don't have an air compressor at the moment, ha ha
