Nice, nice. Give details of how much you lowered it and what company you used. What size are tires? Anyone replaced TH350 with 200R4?

Check in with teeitup. He's the main original parts seller on the board.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build

Thanks guys, glad you like the truck. As for the drop its the same set up as Gumby had when it was static. A mix of CPP and ECE parts. 2.5 drop spindles up front, 3 inch springs and out back its a 6 inch spring, 1.5 block, trac bar kit and C notch. Tires are 215/70's up front and 275/60's out back. It rakes the truck perfectly and still have great clearance for a driver. The only other thing I would suggest with this drop is the CPP control arm kit for some extra ground clearance. I have been doing the final detail work on the truck this week. The bed started out looking like this:

Name: rsz_img_3008.jpg
Views: 1105
Size: 103.2 KB

It has lots of surface rust on the floor, and the walls were covered with decades old adhesive that was dry as sand. At some point the bed had carpet glued all over it. After 4 cans of spray stripper and 2 days of careful scraping, dousing with water, over and over again, I got it all stripped, cleaned and looking proper again. Trust me it was a long ****ty job, but well worth it in the end to save the original paint. Now it looks like this:

Name: rsz_img_3109.jpg
Views: 1120
Size: 85.4 KB

Same deal on the glove box door. Someone had "added" some thick rubberized black paint at some point to the face of it to match the gauge bezel. I spent about a day carefully getting it stripped back to the OG paint and looking proper again, and didn't hurt the original paint under the black coat. Saved it!

Name: rsz_img_3085.jpg

Getting the details like that right really make the truck so much better in my eyes. So what do you guys think of the Ghost?

Jason, some black commercial license plates ending in H or J would seal the deal and be era correct.

Looks fantastic Jason, I'll be watching it on Ebay for sure!

What happened to the 67 you had a few pages back? I'm thinking about picking up a patina 67-8 swb for a summertime driver.

Your 71' is awesome. What's the deal with all the old cool sheet metal leaving the states? Nacho now your Gumby. It's just not fair. Looking for a decent patina truck now. I'm not having a lot of luck.

Nah Gumby is not for sale or leaving the country. The 65 I did called the Albatross is the one thats leaving the country. The Ghost is for sale if you want a Patina truck, its pretty hard to beat this one.

Rene, thanks for the tip, Im on the hunt for plates as we speak. Finding DMV clear ones is tough...

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build

Sorry about the mix up of gumby. I'm really gravitating towards a 64' or 65'. Can I ask did you sell the albatross on eBay? Just curious on the sheet metal leaving the country.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build

No sweat buddy. Gumby has a forever home in my garage once the build is done. As for the Albatross, I listed it on Ebay and sold it there. No matter how you look at it, original patina C10's are in high demand so Ebay seemed like the best place to offer it to the world

The SEMA crunch is over after next week so progress should kick up soon after on Gumby. Stay tuned guys.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build

In the mean time, I haven't been just sitting around. The Ghost has been keeping me busy. I redid the interior on it over the last few weeks. The seat cover in there was a nice old JC Whitney cover that had a cool look to it but it was ripped, faded and stained so that came out. I like the look of the houndstooth so I went with that cover, blue carpet and new shift boot. Check the before and after...

Very cool and a nice place to sit in now. I have to say, when I pulled the door panels to wax the doors and the channel, the original paint behind them was as nice as the paint all over the truck. Again, this thing is such an awesome survivor.

Nice looking trucks, for sure. The cabin refresh really made a huge difference, and really doesn't cos all that much to do. Cool looking workspace too.

Excellent progress and pics.

Can you tell me what P/S bracket Delmo is using on your engine?
It seems to position the power steering pump a little higher than normal.

I would be curious to see the alternator bracket for the passenger side also,... since it still has the short water pump on it.

Hey Keith, I will have to get with Del on that bracket for the P/S. Im not sure which one it is. Same on the Alt bracket. I will have to find out which one he uses to move it over to the Passenger side.

Glad you guys like the Ghost, I dig it too... Seriously its the nicest C10 I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I will get some more photos up once Im done with it. I think the motor is coming out this weekend so I can paint it and re gasket it. Then I will take some proper photos so you guys can see it all finished off.

Re: Crushing Gumby 71 Shortbed Patina build

Forgot to post this up but here is where the motor is at on the Ghost right now. I spent some time polishing the firewall and getting all the junk and skuzz off of it and ended up with nice clean white paint and factory grease pencil markings showing up.

Like I said, motor needs to come out for paint and then its dialed. What do you guys think?

Firewall looks clean!
Be careful about taking the motor out. That can lead to all kinds of spending

Seriously buddy, no joke there... Im trying to keep my wallet locked up but its not working out that way. Its ok though, on a truck like this Im happy to fix what needs fixing and make it as good as it can get. I found a beautiful driver original white paint front fender for it this week. Im buffing it now and it will go on this weekend. Glad you guys are enjoying it.
