Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Ok, so if I can reiterate. For those in need of factory bolts, nuts, or clamps or whatever... before I toss or hand off something that someone needs...was my point. I was just trying to help out those who restore. Most of my original engine and working generator are on a 100 point Corvette.
Figure that a restoration guru would have stock height information.

Hi, LVPhotos. I don't mean to harp on this. Your questions are totally valid. However, they don't belong here in the thread about the most original trucks around. I'm sure if you post them on the general forum or in the classifieds you will get your answers but please don't clutter up this thread with off-topic material. Just trying to keep things focused on the original topic-- one that happens to be near and dear to me and several others. Thanks!

Well, technically... if it is restored it is no longer original.
Just sayin... Personally, I think these trucks are awesome original untouched, restored to original or with a bit of personalization.
A great part of American history.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

You guys are brutal, a guy was just trying to pass on what he figured was usable stock parts to people who might need them. Even if chose the wrong place to post his message. Although I like to customize my trucks, I truly love them in any form especially untouched originals. LVphotos isn't ruining the thread, the people treating him like a child are.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Ok, ok. Easy now, it's all good. LV thanks for thinking of offering up your parts to the "orig crowd" before tossing them, though the for sale section here does pretty well at finding new homes for left over bits.
YB - I don't think anybody is being brutal, just stating that there are better places for other subjects. I'm sure everybody on this forum has seen a hundred examples of how easily the course of a thread can be turned away from it's original topic and end up losing steam in the process. I think Sodly, like me, just wants to keep this one on track as there are only a handful of pure factory-original threads on here.
Lets just let it go and get on with posting crazy barn finds and time-capsule trucks, eh?

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

posted these in another thread but I guess it qualifies here. Original paint which the wife keeps telling me to paint or it cant come home so it stays in storage at grandpas house.

1965
Originally a 230 but now V8

Got the correct camper mirrors back on it and got some 15 inch rims painted body color with stock caps and some new tires as it was difficult finding correct clip hubcaps. What I found strange was the spare was a body color split rim so not sure what would have been correct for the burb as the 16s were also green. Rebuilt suspension and brakes to stock specs. Rebuilt the heater and controls and trying to figure out the best way to repair the "body work" (read bondo) done by the original owners son and find a nice chrome bumper and anodized grill to replace the C60 grill on it now.

Ill get more pics when I go to start it up again in a few weeks. Have to say the new baby makes it harder to find time to work on the fleet!

I don't know what it sold for, only what it was listed at, which lasted less than a day. I'd prefer to let the new owner announce his/her somewhat good fortune by coming forward here on the board with the truck. I HOPE that person is a member.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

I want to make my 65 GMC as original as possible, but the original hubcaps (which are usually dented and destroyed) and extremely hard to find. And, the 230 got replaced with a 1967 250, so making mine original would take some extreme searching and lots and lots of money. ;(

what rims are on your 65? My brother has a set of 16s he got with his 65 burb that have clips and in the boxes of parts a set of GMC clip style painted caps in good condition. He is looking for driver quality chrome 65 chevy nub caps

It's my understanding that "nub" wheels came later after 66.

Was that for GMC? 64-66 had nub type rims for this style cap which he is looking for

first pic is the type of original 1/2 ton painted clip style cap he has (most vendors list this as a 55-59 cap so I guess it may not be the one you need)

second is the 1/2 ton nub cap he is looking for

third is a clip back side (3/4 ton?)

I have found 3 bump rims dated as far back as 62. I'm not sure when the nub wheels came out, but my guess would be 61-62ish.......

On Chevrolet 1/2 ton ,Nub wheels started in 1961 . For GMC the 1960 clip hubcap carried into 1961 so it seems GMC nub wheels started in 1962. The clip wheel though was still used as a 16 and 17.5 wheel in half ton. If 66-PMD-GMC is referring to 8 lug Nub wheels , those started around 1971 with the disc brakes on trucks.

Oh yeah, You mean the deal of the century? Somehow I almost feel insulted that a survivor of this caliber went so cheap. Obviously, when it comes to C20's the truck buying public is still fast asleep. Wake up fellas! ... No wait, ... nevermind, go back to sleep.
